Bid retraction on Ebay
I've got some alloys on ebay ending Sunday and today the fella winning (at £56) emails to say would I take £100 to end today. I said OK as ive had enough of timewasters offers/ 16 watchers and only a few low bids and he popped over at lunchtime. He took a look at them and said they are no better than his own ones and sorry to waste my time. He then turned around a walked off. Fair enough I thought as it was a deal outside ebay, but he should still pay for them if he wins them on ebay for £56. Later this evening I see his has retracted the bid saying "seller changed description". What annoys me is that in the Bid History page it shows he retracted his bid and gives the above reason, although i've not made any changes to the listing. Do ebay never check these things? I've reported him for misusing the bid retraction thing but have had no word back yet. I thought they would have contacted my first to check it was OK to retract the bid.

he said he didnt want them after inspection and has backed out in a way that doesnt cause problems for either.
personally i would have let it lie at that.

when you retract a bid you only get a couple of options when it comes to reasons for retraction so all he has done is selected one of them to complete the request, dont bother your arse mate its not worth the hassle, ebays hard enough work as it is!!!

to be fair, i think that at least you still have your auction running and may get other bidders interested, what would have happened if he had bought won the auction and then walked away saying they were not as described, which legally he could have done.
what did he find that stopped him buying them?

They maybe looked worse than in the pics? Obviously something made him not want them. Id be grateful that he has done the right thing and cancelled his bid mate, rather than mess you around after the auction only to tell you he doesnt want them. Remember that since ebay have changed the feedback system making sellers unable to leave buyers negatives or even neutrals, then buyers can abuse this and bid for things and dont have to pay for them with no risk to themselves.

As above, when you retract your bid, eBay only gives you 3 options to chose. There isnt one that says 'Changed my mind, dont want the item' or similar. You just get 'seller changed description', 'entered wrong amount' & 'cant contact seller'. He just chose one from the list rather than you actually changing anything in the description.
