I feel for you Tony, I have followed your rebuild thread and you and the other guys from here over the years with the RSTs. After all the work and effort it is a total pis***.

I'm no engine expert, but if this car has muched two engines then surely there has got to be something wrong with a fuel system, or electrical system somewhere? I would be tempted just to throw a cheap standard RST engine in it, and see if you can replicate the fault. A third new tuned engine would be totally unbareable.

Best of luck Tony, and get it sorted, it'll be worth it chap

Sorry but if you knew Tony you would know that a 2nd hand RST lump wont do. I think people could guess this by the way the car hs been restored in his thread, tony doesnt cut corners. It would be point less fitting a std engine and getting it mapped on his management and then building a full spec one and then getting that mapped at a later date, im sure he would rather get the full spec build and fitted in one go.

As posted earlier (just incase you missed that bit) its a nice guesture by people to donate money but Tony WONT take a penny of it. He believes its his car and his problem and he will fix it (if thats the decision he comes to) with his own money!

Im sure IF he decides to keep it and build a new engine then he wont refuse help sourcing the parts needed

Firstly.... Cheeky bastid's nicking our ideas

Secondly.... CAN I please just reiterate, TONY did not ask for this thread

I fully understand why Christian started it, Dave summed it up really, he would have jumped on this thread with glee, at the oppourtunity to slate a few people ... BUT when it comes this close to home, feelings change, it really does become "personal", it may not mean alot to a number of users but to others it means far far more than you can imagine...

Danny C
i'm not having a go at tony its just anoying that he's obviously had the money to make such a good car that we all want and then somthing goes wrong and his mates are asking to give money.
Mate, with the greatest respect, you really do not know how wrong you are, on two counts Im afraid... not having a go mate as Im sure you not the only one thinking it I can assure you, without getting too personal, Tony has not simply "had the money to build it"... From day one.... and that hasn't changed, hence the difficult decisions

I too have spoken to Tony today, as Andy says he hasnt ruled any option out as yet, I also know he doesnt even feel like turning the comp on yet let alone come on here and air his gratitude and views....... SO please dont think he is ignoring you all. Im sure he will respond just as soon as he is ready...

Can I also suggest, this isnt, at least at the moment, the time or place to cast aspersions over whos fault it is, what exactly happened or what should be done by the builder/mapper to compensate. Again, the reason I say this is ultimatly its up to Tony, to decide what he wants or expects to be, has or will be offerd to him

Im getting fucking mad with this, so im going to type is in plain and simple english

TONY DOESNT WANT MONEY FROM ANYONE FOR HIS CAR

TONY HAS NOT POSTED ON HERE ASKING FOR MONEY

The only thing he MIGHT need help with is sourcing parts IF he decided to put it back together.

Is that simple enough for you Danny?

DannyC why dont you just fuck off you ****, your post is not wanted now be a good prick and delete it.

That is totally un-called for!

I think you are taking what Danny said to personally. Danny is just making a generalised comment on then fact that people should come on here asking for money because they have a problem with there car (its not right!) if however people come to you personally and offer you money to help out..... then sure thats great.

I really feel sorry for Tony after all the time and money he has put in to this car. It really is a master piece! but these things do happen.

Hope you get it sorted soon Tony

as i've already said i've got nothing against tony, i love his car, i know hes not had anything to do with the post, so sort yourself out wanker

Fair enough I may be far better off financially than you and have the money to largely do what i like and buy what i want but just because you dont have it doesnt give you the right to speak or at least put your comments forward the way you did in your earlier post to others that do have the money or where offering help

In all the years I have posted on here and RSBB I have never seen anyone say a bad word about Tony at all and after reading that resto thread it made me want to help whether financially or parts etc.. Yes I could go out and send my car to have it done to as good as standard as Tony`s was, the money to me is little but what I wouldnt have from it is the satisfaction that I built this. And that is what Tony and Damo have that you dont , along with respect.

Andy, Danny has the right to his opinion and so do we all

We may take it differently because we know him as more than just a name on a public Bulletin Board

MJC, bit OTT me thinks...
btw, what the hell you saying here

Tony will get it fixed, even if it means selling his Stack and a few other non-essential items to fund it - these can easily be replaced at a later date

That's excellent news, and a perfectly mature approach to it.

Given that my missus lives down your way, I would have no probs in bringing bits down, especially considering I should be in Norwich once every couple of months after New Year....

OK guys, can I just make a few very important points......

1. This thread was totally my idea, it wasn't some kind of blagging thread.
2. Gary and I have already said that we will do whatever we can to help Tony. Thatis CATEGORICALLY NOT any kind of admission.
3. I fully understand those that don't want to donate, please leave your opinion, then leave the thread. The nature of it is as a 'Help a friend' kind of scenario.
4. I NEVER asked anyone to donate Ł20. I said that I wanted to stump up Ł20. I later said that if anyone had any parts that may be of use, then they would be equally appreciated.

Ian Howell summed up the narrow-mindedness that over-shadows the whole tuning world. When I told him that Tony's engine had failed and that it looked as though it had melted a piston, his immediate response was 'Must be a mapping error'. I have to say, my estimations of Ian severely dropped on the strength of that one comment and its remarks like that which give honest professional companies a bad name. I could fire something significant back in Ian's direction, but thats underhand so I will keep it to myself.

Also, the suggestions that the Engine Builder/Tuner should be accountable for the engine is also a little narrow-minded. An engine can be put together (as Tonys was) with absolutely meticulous care and it could still fail in exactly the way Tony's did. This could be for any one of a number of reasons, some of which can be blamed on someone, some you have to accept have to remain blameless. Here are a few examples (I state that these example DO NOT directly relate to Tony's Engine).

Injector Failure
Hydraulic Lifter Failure
Head Gasket Failure
Boost Spike
Excessive Coolant Temperature
Excessive Air Charge Temperature
Rod Bolt Failure
Piston Failure (Metal fatigue or simple construction defect)
Oil Leak (Due to blown seal/gasket)
Driver Error (Including Post Set-up 'adjustment')
Mapping Error

Do I make my point?

We all take risks, we have all had failures, we have all paid the price, me included. I personally felt that Tony's failure was a little different. He spent months putting the car together and hardly got to enjoy it. I felt for him, so decided to help out, which many others have also done. Thanks for that.

Bottom line is, that if Tony decides that he can accept the help that we are offering, then I will co-ordinate it all and see to it that the car is put back to the same spec as it was. The money certainly wont be used to get him further than he was. Obviously if we uncover a weakness, then it will be addressed.

end of the day no one is blaming you it melts a piston 1st reactoin is bad mapping
was it pinkin, what was egt temps, what was lamda readings
we all build cars me included spend hrs and hrs of own time and 1000s of pounds
no one forced tony or anybody else to enter the event so you take it on the nose which is in your wallet
no point crying over it its only a car things go wrong when you well over factory power levels and it cost money to do it and repair it thats the chance ya take
like me and my engine at donni
like martoon on gumball
porkie has fair share of bad luck
sunny aswell
and am sure a few of you rst boys have
you take your change when you line up at brunters simple as
hope he does get it sorted cars aint worth stressing over

and i agree with your tuner coments no performance engine can be warrenty
even to the point ya engines doing 9000 rpm on the dyno and it lets go before its even in the car
it happens ya got to just suck it up and carry on

Thats the spirit. I don't expect everyeone (infact anyone) to donate, I just wanted to have a show of strength so that Tony realises that the car is worth the heartache.

If it triggers more than that, then thats a bonus!!

Thanks everyone.

Tony...sorry to hear of your problems (it happens to the best of us [shame it had to happen twice ])

At the end of the day it gets dark.... no sorry the point was that this is a public discussion board and if someone wants to make a comment/opinion on a post (i.e. Danny C) its totally out of order to jump down that persons throat for offering that opinion (i.e. AndyRST).

I personnally won't be offering Ł20 to Tony although I will offer my congratualations on building an A1 RST.
