I'll be there, either at easter or september or maybe both
The whole trip is a fucking challenge, to get there and back with some good laps under your belt. It is not a normal trackday and should be treated as more of a road trip, with the main focus on getting yourself and car back in one piece

100% with Paul and Porkie..
We went over with just 6 cars- Inc the most original RS31 capri in the country..
Apparently Bob at Dominion had a heart attack when he was told lol.
Everytime we drove it was important we got to where we wanted and together etc.. esp as none of us speak the lingo and we had Fords...
Caused some controversy amongst the group on the last but 1 day as me and Karl had has enuff of doing 60 everywhere so Nailed it from Germany, through Belguim to Calais in record time lol.
The track is the same.. the locals bait you and if u crash or hit anything or break down its going to be expensive.
Simply make sure u r covered with Breakdown companies,
make sure you have a surpluss fund if things do go pear shapped (credit card u dont use but could for the trip)
Make sure your car is tip top
Be carefull and have fun.
At least thats my take on it anyway

When I went with Jake and the Central club, it was a top week, best fun i have had in years, I will definatly go again espesialy after seeing Jeremy Clarkeson on the Ring on Top gear the other week, its addictive. Jake is dead correct in what he says, just make sure your car is up for the trip, When i took mine i did not think it was up for it, and i had no fuel cage as the sender fooked up just before i went, so i spent the whole trip worrying if my car was going to break down, I had a good back up crew with Karl with us.
DO IT!!!

some good sense talked on this thread about the attitude and dangers of the 'ring. don't let it put you off though, take notice of them and give the place the respect that it needs - but you have to go sometime in your life if you are a car nut, the place is legendary and may not be open to the public for ever
graceland, i will be there for sure at easter, but also many more times during the year. post up again closer to the time and i'll see if i can make the 2 hour drive. if so, i'll be happy to take you out for a lap first.

Anyone who thinks that a normal trackday even remotely approaches the Nurburgring experience is more than Graceland (no offence mate ). The journey down is the time there is sub-zero . However, I can understand why someone like Lee doesn't like it, as knowledge is EVERYTHING at the Ring, and it doesn't matter if you even have a 1000bhp car, you will be murdered around the Ring by a local in a Micra with superior knowledge of when you can keep your foot to the floor . It takes at LEAST 100 laps to get an idea of where the track goes and even after 1000 laps, you can still learn something new about the place .
The best thing you can do is go as a passenger in the car with someone who knows the track and you will then see the lines. Then you need someone to come in your car as a guide. To try and attempt a blind lap as fast as you can is stupidity. There is no shame in doing 12 minute laps on you first time there .

I love it and if I can get a lift, I'll be going again in easter, with a few other new faces.
I hate to agree with Lee, but I guess the way he put it somes it up totally. I think you need to be NOT SCARED of going, and respect the track for what it is.

After seeing it on top gear me and my friends are going, back end of july i think.
cant wait, but none of us have any track experience or anything. i'm scared of my RST breaking and being stuck there,
what sort of money will the trip cost?

I'll be going in Easter, can't fooking wait! I think it's the fear factor that draws you back rather strangely. I absoluetely shit my pants for the first 2 trips, but now I love it!! No other track day can even begin to compare imo.

no it's not. it's a public road and is available for tourist drives. there are signs everywhere saying stvo, which basically means that road rules apply.
i love the taking the 'ring , but tend to have more fun at hockenheim where you easily learn the track, have run off areas, and can generally hoon about much more recklessly.

When you are on the Track dont let the buzz of it all take over, Which it does quite easy, I said i was going to take all my laps nice and easy cause i wanted to get my car home in one piece but as soon as i got around the first corner that went all out of the window. but even then i was being over taken by locals in Golfs. Like Mike said it takes about 100 laps to even start learning it.
