Battery / Alternator testing ?
Hi all, hope someone can help.
My V6 Mondeo battery light stayed on this morning, so if i make it home tonight how do i test the battery and or alternator.
I have a multimeter.
Is it as simple as test voltage across the battery with and without the car is running.
When the car is running i assume i should have more volts due to alternator input (if the alternator is working) ????
cheers

Put a multi meter on the battery and test voltage. This should read 12 volts. Start the car and the multi meter should read 13-14 volts. If it reads under 12 at the start and normal when started your battery should be the fault. If it doesn't read 13-14 when started your alternator or wiring is at fault.
