Hi,


been off the seen for a while, and i need to get a new cometic HG, and seen a at least 2 different designs.


So apart from the thickness, whats the differences and advantages?

Think there is only 2 types, the original and an improved version. matt lewis has some good deals on with genuine mountune wrc gaskets, worth trying him.

 

dont know the difference between the wrc and cometic one but i have seriously abused 2 cometic ones with no problems. at one point even letting the car idle past warm up temp for ages without any water in the system wondering why it was SO hot ) other times on track when it over heated etc. the general concensus appears to be that they are great but you must have flat head/ flat block and my take on this is that people who go the cost saving route (cometic) may also skimp on getting the head skimmed whereas those who have paid the wrc cost would have had that done too given the cost of the gasket.

WRC ones are only around the £150 mark now so close to what cometic costs these days!!


PGT think its more alot of ppl dont take the block out and get it checked/skimmed as its obviously alot easier to take the head somewhere!!

 

The normal MLS and the phusion type. The phusion is basicly the mls with.....super dooper fire rings, filled with kryptonite or something.

i've only ever used a Cometic in my Fiecos, and never had a issue, so i'm not gonna change to WRC gasket, as i have no reason too.

Steve, what thinkness? i have got a std 1.3mm cometic sitting around, but most prob fit a thinker one on her.

It looks thicker than 1.3mm, not got a pair of calipers to measure it

it will have the size on the packageing. Std is 1.3mm crushed, and 3 layers.

Std is 51thou and the thicker one is 70thou... dont know the sizes in metric but i'm sure you can convert it somewhere

 

0.39" = 1.0 mm

0.51" = 1.3mm crushed, Std thickness.
0.70" = 1.8mm crushed.


i have seen them rangeing from 1.0 - 2.0mm options.
