Default what would you do?

I put a wanted ad in some old skool forums for a part for my 100E, a guy replied and we agreed a deal I am going to pick it up on friday at the other end of the country...
then today I get several other offers including one an hours drive away for less that half the price (like 60 quid cheaper!) of the one I am going to collect not to mention the fuel saving

I'm am a man of my word so believe I should collect the one miles away, but I have something niggling me saying don't be stupid and don't just throw money away, it's not like it's growing on trees at the mo!

i'd be tempted to do the same, it will still save you money & hopefully not upset the other seller

id phone the guy and explainto him your getting one closer to home but im sure all those on here who consider a mans word unbreakable would travel the country for the part to preserve his honour regardless of the extra cost.

I would be tempted to offer a tenner,as an appology and explain the situation. honesty is the best policy but money and mileage talk, and if its in your faviour, its a winner. If they are decent enough they will see your point, and if the others turn out to be a no-go, you havnt burnt your bridge.

Hard one really. Of course you want to buy the closer/cheaper one but you've agreed on the other one.

If i was selling the part and had made an effort to keep it for someone especially and arranged a time etc i'd be PISSED if the person backed out. However if i was informed what had happened then i guess i could understand the situation.

call the first fella
tell him that yuo were prepared to travel to meet him but, seeing as this one i just around the corner and not 500 miles away, it's going to be a bit silly to spend all that time and effort going to get his one, he'll see your point about it and the sooner you tell him the better

after all, if you are saving the good part of over £100 on the deal you'd be silly not to

just hope it's worth the huble pie if the one you've gone to get turns out to be shitter

do this then, call the fella up and tell him that you've been offered what you wanted locally and are going to see if it's worth it or not but you'll give him something for his troubles if you don't buy from him
if it's sound then fine, but if it's not you'll come up and get the one from him on friday

at least you've covered yourself on all accounts AND the fella's going to get a tenner for holding on to them for a few days

everyoens a winner

unless you have to go there and buy them, in which case you'll hav them but be skint
