totally 100% agree with ya porkie however the lack in salary does get weighed up by the sheer amout of contacts you make over there,

and after my first year i negotiated with the camp direct ,and with that and the backhander ( $300 dollars a week ) i was getting off the local bar owner to keep an eye on our younger staff and keep all our staff drinking there i had it pretty cushty ,

I have never heard such disillusion dreams. So you (allegedly) look and sing like an American deceased rock star, and think you can make a career out of this in Germany and earn enough for a big house, lots of land, some horses and a couple of cars.
In the current climate especially, you are an idiot.

bamberg is a nice part of the world.

where i lived in friedberg, just north of frankfurt, was where elvis was based when he was in the army. the army base there closed in 2007 i think so the town is now empty. he lived in the next town along, bad nauheim, where i worked. there is a lot of history over there with elvis, so i can see why you would do well over there. if there's a future in it, then i would definitely say go for it and the sooner the better for the sake of your kids

Hi, I live in Germany now (Detmold, nicer than it sounds!) The standard of living imo is worse than the uk fuel is about £1.20 a ltr food and grocery shopping is twice the price and if you have a baby like me, (nappies are literally twice the price than in uk!) medical care is not free like the uk, if you like your cars dont bother bringing it over as you cant wash it i the street and you have to take it to a automatic washer that fooks the paint! the speed cameras are not painted yellow like in the uk but hidden in bins and behind signs etc OK not a massive deal but I was caught 3 times in 3 months! if your misses likes shopping she will be very diserpointed as well! (good job Next deliver!) also nothing is open on a Sunday, for a country that produced the BMW M3 it seems very backward to me? Also house prices are going up as well so you will be lucky to get a good deal.
On the plus side it is a very beautiful country and very clean (although the recycling system is a joke!) the people are nice they will make an effort to speak English to you even if you cant really speak German ( im learning though), its more laid back and more of a cafe culture, the autobahns put the British motorways to shame and you can get beer in mc donalds!
It only works for me as I got a big pay rise for coming out here plus I get alot of tax free benefits, but I miss the UK and would not settle out here.

Hope this helps a bit.

speed cameras are sneaky, but the punishment is proportional to the crime which is more fair.

you get a lot more house for your money over there, although semis are harder to find.

not having shops open on a sunday seems backward at first, but after a while you realise it's a good thing as it leaves you with free family time to do things together etc.

how about not being allowed to mow your lawn on saturday lunchtime or all day sunday then? also sounds backward, but is a good thing as it makes the neighbourhood more pleasant.

there are plenty of hand car wash facilities

the best thing about germany? the kebabs

All you can do is whats best in your head for your kids. Wish you all the best with the move if you do decide on it. I couldn agree more with you and if you get a good enough oppurtunity then you would be foolish to turn it down. This country is going downhill and i for one wish alot was different.
Good luck and all the best

The gyros (spelling?) with chips and curry ketchup is awesome! Dont forget not hanging the washing out on a Sunday! Only problem is if you only have the weekend to do the shopping (no Internet shopping deliveries), wash the car and cut the grass it becomes a balls ache and you have to do it all on a Saturday and that aint no fun with a Friday night hangover!
there are good and bad points tbh but i dont think I would leave the UK for Germany

Wonder what they pay? When I worked for Finning @ Fording Teck i was paid $40 hr ....

I was told by Service Canada that No Employer can hire Foreigne Labour until the Recession ends (If ever)

This is even worse up Fort Mac where you need IP to work.

Unless you have Red-seal Provincial ticket you would have to be a specialist mechanic in BC ...

if you leave the country your not part of the problem . your just leaving it for someone else to sort out. but once you go to another country you become what many consider to be a major problem here, an immigrant taking a local persons job so will meet with some hostility where ever you go.

Read a few replys on saying the UK is shite and fooked. Makes me laugh any of you lot ever lived in another country bar your week in the sun ? You try for example going to Spain and finding work not a chance less you in Gib like Ballin and thats thin on the ground. Most other countries are the same on their arse and ex pats will be bottom of the line for jobs. You know how you lot preach dont give the polish etc jobs, thats exactly what other countries do as well, there own come first.

If every person that whinges about the current situation in England would get up and do their bit to turn things around rather than packing up and leaving, there's still a good future ahead.
If you just walk away and leave it to sink then, well you ARE part of the problem and share the responsibillity for the downfall of your country.

southall, originally populated by resident whites, made the same row when the irish moved in when heathrow started up
then the irish thought they were the locals, and kicked up a bit of a fuss when the indians moved in
then the indians kicked up a fuss as they were locals when the council started shipping in somalians by the boatload
and then southall turned to shit
and now the eastern europeans have come, complete with begging scroungers with babies on street corners

Agree with that!

Just come back from Spain where the better half's parents have retired to, and it's reposessions galore, because of all the English who've moved out there, and simply not been able to get any work.

This country is what you make of it. Don't like where you live? Move. Want more money -get a better job etc etc....

What is "so wrong" with this country? (aside from the lack of sunshine?)

i moved to sweden 9 years ago,and as people say its not always brighter on the other side,i,m being finished for the second time from work next week, loads of immigrants here also, prices petrol, food same as the u.k ,1 hour 20 mins and £50 with ryanair and i can be in liverpool,i have family in wigan, but and i mean but it is a very nice peacful town where i live, seen 1 fight outside the pub in 9 years lol compared to wigan thats a joke, hardly any voilence, crime and drugs!which is good for my little lad to grow up in,the school system is very, very good, and elvis i reckon you would make very good money here as the rock n roll scene is the biggest following in the world here.....
house prices are excellent 4 bedroom detached with a bit of land c.a 70k pounds, weather is cold in winter up to -28 but it is nice with the snow for my boarding and in summer you get around +32 and we have long summers
i,d say if your kids are still young go for it! they will learn the language directly,my lad speaks swedish and english 1000% perfect and he is 8 years old,the health service is excellent as my little lad was born 3 months premature,he weighed 490 grams, under 1 lb,it was tough in hospital 6 months and the health service put me and the other half in the hospital hotel, moved us to the local hospital,we where flown by helicopter, after 3 months

personally elvis if thats what you think you want to do then you should do it. the only other thing that will happen if you don't is later in life you'll wish you had! and thats a fact... don't listen to all this crap being said about your part of the problem of the uk if you leave, thats just horse shit and a big steaming pile of it too. you've only got one chance at life mate if you want it take it! it could end before you know it. thats the only way to look at life dude, i wish you all the best what ever you do pal

well i love OZ i also love the uk to but for me there is more to life than spending all of it in the uk, the world is a big place and i would like to see a bit more than the uk. it's fair to say the economy here is strugling to but in general live is better for me and the mrs. it's about what you want and feel is the best for you and the family simple as that. so if you feel the need get out while you have the chance i did and have not looked back

Bamberg sounds good to me, nice little town.

Wouldn't wanna live in any of the bigger cities like Hamburg or Frankfurt, though. I doubt you'd get a better standard of living there.

Oh, and when you leave... Can I have your british passport, please?
