thanks but that didn't work! I'm trying to find a 10mm taper thread tap. that's not the first tap you would use to make a 10mm threaded hole its an unusual thread which is 10mm but tapered like a bspT ot npt.

apparently these are rarely found outside of Germany so looking on ebay Germany. The thread appears to be the one used in the oil galleries on the YB cylinder head (the two long galeries which run full length of the head) the problem is that my head has cracked where the plug goes in just under the inlet cam pully and the oil is pissing out. it looks like it could be repaired simply by tapping the thread in deeper or perhaps getting a 1/8bspT tap and using a 1.8bspT plug

in the workshop in germany that i worked in for 4 years and learnt the language, the engineers called a tap a gewindeschneider. although technically they are wrong, as a die is a gewindeschneider and as you say a tap is a gewindebohrer (literally a thread hole maker)

i was just telling you what the word for a tap, gewindeschneider, literally translates as, not saying that a thread cutter is the same as a tap.
