Default L8 ECU Test

I tried first time to test the ECU with the led system (+12V led-resistor to A terminal and jumper wire to B&C terminals) and with ignition on the led stayed constantly on and when engine running was also constantly on no flashing just stayed on all the time.By the way I found the ACT sensor faulty. The ECU is chipped so could this be the reason for the fault codes not to work?

could be, yes. the chip will have the program to output the LED flash code, or the pectel datastream that can be read by plugging in a pectel monitor or the excellent IAW Monitor software from RP Lab

I tried the test just to find out what was wrong because the car wasn't running perfect and since I couldn't find anything I check sensors and wiring and found the ACT broken (infinitive resistance)... I did this test first time but it seems that it's not working in my ECU due to the chip I guess...

the error reporting (flashing led) system is contained in the original ford chips, when you replace them with an aftermarket one you loose the facility to test in this way. If you have your old std chip then bung that in (just to check before anyone jumps on me) and it'll work again

Cheers

good idea

not all aftermarket chips lose the error reporting though. i have a collins L6 stg 1 chip that still does it. i guess it depends if the tuner took the road maps as their base, or a rally map that more than likely had the pectel protocol in.

Thanks guys! Unfortunately I don't have the original chip so I must check the ECU "manually" whenever needed...
