Default painted some bits at the weekend

Thought i'd cheer myself up so painted a couple of bits in my parents garden over the weekend!!

Did the inlet plenum in metallic silver, thought it would look a bit nicer than bare ally plus is now easier to clean!!!

Then did the rocker cover in candy blue!! doesnt show up too well in the pic but i used the same silver basecoat thats on the plenum which is a very coarse and vibrant silver!!

Just got to get te top machined then shes ready to fit once ive finished the engine off

Unfortunatly thou the basecoat has left a nice shimmer on the patio and benches at the end of their garden

Yea i know mate, was thinking about blocking it with 320 then wetflatting it but someone i work with has a lathe and machined things in the past so hopefully if he doesnt want too much might just get him to skim it, was a tiny bit pitted ontop anyway!!!

Just round my mums picking them up now, glimmers like fuck in the sun

Cheers mate Wasn't sure whether to do the cam cover candy red or blue but as my samco's are blue went with that in the end. Theres 3 coats of HS lacquer on there so should hopefully take the heat!!!

Few bits of shit in it which is annoying but then its gonna happen outside so, althou could do with a better compressor the 24L tank on mine struggled at holding 2bar to paint these 2 small things let alone any car panels Will stick to using a booth lol.

Actually have another spare cam cover kicking about so might do that one in candy red and see what i think

well couldnt be bothered waiting to get it skimmed so just blocked it down instead!!

Actually hit it with 180grit and its given it a nice brushed ally look which i think im gonna leave as it is for now!! Was going to go down the grades then polish it but like how it looks tbh

That cover looks spot on.

I need to do mine the same but its polished.

Can polished be painted without it flaking off?

Is it just literally polished up bare ally?!

If so it'll need keying up first or it will flake off, then a coat of etch primer and depending on what finish u want a few coats of primer.

You can go wet on wet onto etch without putting another primer ontop first to save rubbing down after but obviously primer will make it a bit more durable plus fills any little imperfections or roughness

i dont know if its polished or chromed but it looks a bit shitty so polished to me.

thanks for the info mate.

might do this tommorow so i need to key it with some wet and dry and the etch primer then normal primer then paint.

What grit wet and dry please

All depends whats on it mate, personally i dry flat most things as thats how we do it at work, if ur going to use a high build primer then most will fill 180 grit scratches in ally and it will give it a good key up or 240 if u want to be safe, anything really tbh as long as its got something for the etch to grip to!!

Even red scotch if u can find it is ok to use, but if its a chromed finish might take something a bit course to scratch it up properly, 240 or even 180 might be needed!!
