well im confused.. with regards to the new car scheme, if say my car was worth 4000 and i wanted to trade it in for a new car does this mean they will now give me 6000 because it is more than 9 years old? then what will become of my car that is traded in? scraped?

or is it like for like.

Tho im after a diesel pickup truck, may go brand new if i can get a good deal and 2k from the government!

apparently, the current scheames operated by some car companies means that you have to have owned the car for 12 months, it much have a valid mot on it and you can only use one car at a time to get the bonus off a brand new car

so the gist of it is that if it's over 10 years old you won't get squat and you can't just buy a shitter from ebay and use that

so, again, a very well thought out plan by our illustrious leaders to get us out of less than 10 year old cars into brand new ones where the £2k you save will be lost in depreciation as soon as you sign the paperwork

car manufacturers have bought it upon themselves though, who's going to buy a new car when one that is 5 years old is just as good? i've seen an 04 plate 525d up for sale on the internet, at a dealer's site, yesterday for £4,600
ok, so it's got 179k on the clock but that's got to be worth a punt surely

not going to tell you who's it is as my mates going to go and have a look at it oer the weekend and don't want anyone gazzumping him from pf

the 2grand scheme will do bugger all for the enviroment,

might sell more cars but not much use if the cars are built overseas,

should be 2grand of a car BUILT in the UK, therefore keeping british workers in jobs, not people in france/germany/spain, i think we have pretty much all car segmants manufactured in UK apart from maybe supermini and mini size cars!

Havent read all of the thread, but your allowance at the moment is £7,200 made up of no more than £3,600 in Cash, and the remainder in Stocks & Shares.

The increase will take the total allowance up to £10,200 made up of no more than £5,100 in Cash and the remainder in Stocks & Shares.

As a side note, if your Cash ISA is not doing so well, you can transfer these into a Stocks & Shares ISA, but once they are inside the Stocks & Shares component cannot be transferred back.

according to this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/bsp/h...calculator.stm

i'll be £300 better off next year

but that fails to take into account anything to do with property prices which is a major factor in expenditure

Apparently of the £2000 half is put up by the Government, and half by the manufacturer, and it's optional, so not all manufacturers will take part in the scheme.

its just to keep the car industry going as we are baiing them out or will be anyway

the dealers aint gonna do "deals" on cars anymore either now due to the 2k part, the price of cars less than 2 years old will drop like flys due to people would rather buy a new car, cars built after 2001 has different car tax laes based on emissions rather than CC which you will be paying back when they keep uping the car tax anyway

theres no deal here, just a clever twist for the stupid, you would have to be PROPER cunt to think " my fiesta is worth 500 quid or 2k if i trade it in and buy a new focus for 9k,,,,, so costs me 7k,,,, you car aint gonna be worth 7k next year due to the new cars being worth 7k AGAIN meaning that the car is gonna be worth half the value roughly in a years time,,,,,, and then keep dropping and then you pay higher car tax too, no doubt dealers will add extra charges like they always do when you buy a car bumping the bill back up

its like the free insurance deals years ago,,,,, my mate fell for that and hes old man bought him a brand new ford escort for 7500 as it came with a years free insurance and also had a warranty

second year hes renewal was,,,,,,,,, 3500 quid due to him being 18 years old driving a new car and it MUST be fully comp even though he had one years no claims,,, he then sold the car and went back to a shitter owing 2000 quid finance AFTER he sold the car and was paying finance on it for a year

unkess your looking to buy a new car this is far from a good deal !

just like when transport for london made all bus fares 1 quid all over london,,,,what they ACTUALLY dod was raise the fares from zone3 to 6 and decrease the zone 1 and 2 by 20p

It goes further than that if you really look into it.

The car must be MOT'd and you must have owned it for at least 12 months.
Realistically most MOT'd cars people have been driving for the last year are going to be worth 500 quid at least.

The dealer/manufacturer will be paying 1K of the 2K, and will only be giving the offer on certain cars, which are ones that they would have VERY happily discounted by more than that in the first place anyway (bear in mind for example some cars are currently being discounted by 6K or more, you could buy a 16K vectra recently for 8K!)

So basically you will get 2K off a car by giving them your car, but you could have got more or less the same deal (often you could have got better!) by haggling anyway, and you could have then sold your car too.

The only think the deal will do IMHO is get more people looking into changing car as there are lots of people out there who dont realise how far you can haggle on a car etc, so those people will think they are getting a good deal when in fact nothing has really changed.
