Billy bargain for a cheap and cheerful setup that will have sound clarity and punch too.

Only problem you will have is that everything will rattle in an old ford so best get the dynomat out and sort it out

Forget the 6x9s, totally not necessary, especially if you're getting a sub. Get some component speakers up front (amped) and a 10 or 12in enclosed sub.

looks good for a cheap and cheerfull install but by the looks of it that dosent include cabling, you can pick amp wiring kits on ebay cheap then just get some half decent speaker cable

That link is mega cheap, I would never get budges speakers again tho, i have been through so many subs and speakers etc etc i have now found the std speakers plus a sub sounds just as good! Except in your case the std speakers will be shit, get it and replace it with good stuff when it breaks!

Cheers Dan & S&M (S&M Rule by the way haha)

Well i think the car has some JL 10cm's up front allready.

Why do you say that about the 6x9s? I thought they were the essential ones haha

I dunno... its a slow project im doing while i pass my test lol... so no real strict budget.

Im just working on the theory that a tidy looking mk2 will end up getting stolen so i dont want to throw silly money at it haha

Why you ask? Something in mind mate?

6x9s are unnecessary when you run components and a sub. My advice to anyone wanting to run a sub is don't even think about 6x9s and get a decent set of components and a decent enough sub all amped and it will be crystal clear. 6x9s are best off by themselves as they are designed to play most frequencies so do not perform as well as a set of components that do your mid range and highs and then you have your sub for the low frequencies. Best all round setup= components, sub, amp.

Cheers Pani_k!

Do you think i should still mount some components on the rear shelf just for the surround sound styles?

How does

10cm in the front doors

13cm on the rear shelf

Amp and sub in the boot

Does that sound like a plan?

Sounds decent enough yes, just don't encase the rear ones in a stealth shelf or you could put them in the rear passenger cabin where the passengers sit behind the seatbelts

Cheers mate!

I think if they are just small speakers the normal shelf will hold them wont it?

Is there any down sides to having the 6x9s or do i just not necaseraly need them?

To be fair mate it has been a long time since I was proper into my ICE and don't know all the new stuff that other people may be more clued up with. I will say don't go for a sub with built in amp. Get separate components even though it may work out more expensive and try stick to one brand. All my gear for example is all Pioneer. Really not in a good position personally to advise on exactly what to get I'll leave that to others that are more in tune (excuse the pun) with this sort of thing. If you want I can give you the contact details of someone I know who install and sells car audio equipment he is based in north london.

Cheers!

I've got the vast majority of my VIBE stuff off eBay shops in the past.

I've bought plenty of bits and pieces from Bass Junkies in the past. Good shop, nice and convenient, but tends to cost a bit more.

There was a little ICE shop near Forbidden Planet that was quite good, but it didn't last long

I've had Xplod in the past. It's not bad at all, but not a patch on the VIBE stuff.

That above seems a very good deal! I'd go for something like that. You won't do better for that sort of cash. Not by a long way IMO.

I would have some in the back yes. Just make sure they're not fighting for air space with your sub!

Love the advice on this , lol
1- what sort of sound are you after ?
2- is quality more important than quantity ?(do you want a nice rich sound or do you just want to play it loud?)
3-what sort of music do prefer listening to when in the car ?
4-have you ever fitted a car audio system before?
5-do you have any idea what the fuck im talking about ? lol

Don't put any speakers in the standard parcel shelf mate!

6x9s supply a full range sound, so if you've not got a sub, they're ok for providing a bit of bass, but if you're going for a small sub the 6x9s become pointless (and they'll compete with the sub). You could add some rear speakers (in the quarter panels) for a bit of rear fill, but there's not much point if you're front end's decent.

The installation is as important (if not more important) than the actual components though, so don't get all giddy and just sling it in the car. Also make sure you run the power cables away from the actual speaker cables when you wire it up as you'll get interference.

Lol @ Brad

Before i start, im no genius on the subject haha

1 I Dont know what sound im after, what kind of sounds are there?

2 To be honest, I guess quality is more important although not to the point that i want to spend my cars valuation on speakers!

3 I have a very varied music taste... Hip Hop, Drum and Bass, Dub, Rock, Ska, Chill out, all sorts mate!

4 No ive never fitted a car audio system before, but i have fitted a few surround sound home kits etc... But no, not car audio

5 I have a rough idea what your talking about, but as i say, im not clued up, hence me asking for advice! And most of the numbers from stereo specs mean vertually nothing to me!

Im waiting to hear back from a bloke on xr2.com about a parcel shelf he has...

Its a standard mk2 shelf, with like a mdf hinged shelf underneath? Would that be any good or am i best just having a sub in the boot, standard shelf with no speakers, and like you say, speakers in the quarter panels?

On that subject, is there pods i can buy to do that job? Or would i have to make them?

Cheers for the help guys

One thing to be aware of is that you shouldn't go off the quoted power figures - Many (especially cheaper) stuff tries to wow you with 500W+ figures, but in reality that's often the 'peek' figure which means fuck all, the 'RMS' figure is more representative, but still is not an accurate reflection of how good the product is.

I wouldn't bother about the shelf, partly because you don't need them, and also because they're in the perfect spot for a thief to see them and have them away!

Save the cash you were going to spend on the rear speakers and get better front ones. The trick IMHO is to make sure everything's amped!

Autoleads www.autoleads.co.uk may have a suitable pod, or just put some decent quality ones in the standard positions.
