has anybody seen anything like these before?

Nope they look very odd? how do you adjust them if they are coilovers......

Ive got a set of them in the shed, they were on the car when i bought it, the car was fitted with a tow bar & in the history it said "new caravan shocks".

You would look good in a caravan now Paul, get them back on

As said they are load assist shocks

The bracket is still on for the tow bar best dig the shocks and tow bar out

coilover just means that the coil is over (or around) the damper. as in normal sierra rears have a separate spring and damper.

in addition to that you can get 'height adjustable coilovers' with the threaded collar etc which are what people normally associate with the term coilovers.

they are probably adjustable for damping, but clearly not for ride height.
