Road tax fine......
Had to use my escort to work one sat with no tax as my bora had a flat battery.
Obviously got stopped by the jammers, told them what had happened, they said dvla would contact me.
So got a letter saying u have a £169 fine to pay, i`m not going to pay it as i have 2 cars taxed and the roads about my area are terrible even on duel carrage ways!
Has anyone else had this problem, and did they get out of paying the fine?
Prob should just pay it, but its the point!

I don't think you have any option but to pay..... you should expect a fine if you use an untaxed vehicle! The only time you are allowed to take an untaxed vehicle on a public highway is when it is booked in for an MOT test.
Question... if the escort would start and the bora's battery was flat.... why didn't you just jump the bora off with the escort.... you can't tell me that any man who owns a ford doesn't possess a set of jump leads...

Agreed!
I always carry jump leads in my boot!
If you were sent on your way with it untaxed, you were lucky - normally it would've been lifted. Normally your car's taken away if it's uninsured or untaxed, and then you'd have had to pay for storage too! Pay the fine and tax the Escort, or SORN it and buy a battery or charger for the Bora. Or at least, a set of jump leads!

i think he's lucky to keep the car so a small fine would be the least of his worries, i thin he actually got off quite lightly for the offence, although i'm not sure how it works in scotland

PassionFord Post Whore!!
If all the RFL money was spent on roads there'd be enough to have someone polish the road in front of every car.

As above mate just swallow the fine otherwise it will get bigger; you were caught bang to rights.
I got fined for having my Volvo untaxed on the road and the fine was somet stupid like 180 quid but if I paid within 14 days I only had to pay 120. If I didn't pay at all it doubled

thatll be a fine of the amount of backdated tax to the last time it was taxed. theyll assume that as youve been caught using it you always have been.

Thanks for all ur replys!
Think i will just pay it, but we must all agree road tax is a joke! U can only drive one car at once and the roads are in a terrible state! And they have the cheek to build speed bumps along a road that also has holes in it, and not repair them!!!

10K+ Poster!!
I might have done the same on the hope I didnt get caught, but fully realising if I did, that I would have to cough up
I'm probably speaking for most people on here as well
You got busted, pay the fine

Sent in a letter to say that the roads are in poor condition and that i only used the car for no more than 2 hours...
They replied by saying if i get a witness, ie, a non-relative or person staying at my address to write in a letter, they will reduce the fine!!!
What a result!!!

shandz totally agree with the state of fifes roads, burst ma fuel tank and battered my fuel pump on one a couple months ago and now the cabs off the road for a rebuild (was happening anyway but not til winter!) because of the state and them just whacking up speedbumps just for the sake of it when they want to, my car isnt even lowered yet and the size of them is scraping the exhaust from it and thats a standard exhaust!
