cheers ian for sorting bob out with the suit!
Matt,
any finish is a mint result in such conditions
any finish is a mint result in such conditions
my thoughts exactly matt!!
bit of background to this event ,
i have been on this event a few times as a speccy and as a navigator myself, after doing tarmac and single venue rallies with my car , i decided i wanted to drive the forrest , having loved grizedale forrest for years , i thought, if i can get a little help with the cost of the event , then , i would be willing to convert the car from tarmac to gravel spec.
i posted on here for a navigator with a little cash who was willing to take the seat ( and a very big job on as well) bob came forward ( along with a few others ) and offered his services
so the months went on and we spoke on various occaissions to sort out the details, mean while the car under went a massive conversion from tarmac to gravel spec, suspension , shockers, cooling system, engine , transmission, exhaust , under sheilds , etc etc. anything that could poss go wrong on the way did go wrong !
and , if it wasnt for certain very good people and companies this event would never have happend for me and bob , and i will thank them later ina separate post.
even had blow outs on the trailer on the way there
so upon arrival at conniston at approx 19.30hrs i was greeted with bob and his wife pat great people had a very good laugh , off to scrutineering with a very nervous bob ( and myself tbh)
all was well , even went through noise at 98 db !!
then that was it , off for a few beers and some food !!
the day after and there was defo some nervous people about !! ermm ok so bob was very nervous !! very very nervous !, told him to chill , and the fact that the car was new to the forrerst , and so was i as a driver , and we have nothing to prove other than me and reliability
so we had a fookin good blast with more sideways action than you could have in an entire lifetime on the road !! we had our little off on stage 2 iirc ? ( cue bob) due to me having no pas and hooking the ruts on the inside of the corners with the inside wheel and not being able to get back out of them so hence the frontal impact !!
the only other incident was a road penalty for lateness after a wrong turn on a road section hence was given an extra 3mins on out total time
but like i say i do like to be able to give people the oppertunity with things that some poeple will never experiance in there lifetime , and without taking anything away from the 1/4 milers and the trackday boys , it really isnt anything like blasting through a live rally stage being timed against the clock not knowing what the next corner is going to be like or wether you will be able to grip , slide , ground the bottom of thecar out or be 5 foot up in the air , the rush is just massive !!
so the days after and the whole event and im still on a high , and want more !!
i wish we could have gone north even further and done the gallway hills rally on the sunday eh bob ???
