Optoins are a little narrow to be honest......
I love England...I was born here ans my ancestors were born here...was once a great country and empire.
I hate the rubbish PC crap and the International meddling, brown nosing the americans and getting into daft wars......our government seem 100% hell bent on spending our tax money on Internation noise.
I dont want to leave, I want someone with some bollocks to stand up and actually grow a pair....not talk the talk for election day then become the same wet farts as their predecessors....and nothing changes and all the promises aren't delivered upon.

Proud to be Scottish.
On the flipside... Britain is one of the best "countries" in the world in terms of public services, quality of life, freedom of speech, standard of living etc etc... That isnt to say its not getting worse year on year though.

We should be proud of what being british represents, tolerance of others while maintaining our traditions and culture that make us who we are, not bending over and taking it up the arse from everyone.

totally agree on most comments allready said but this one is so true and our Armed forces is the best Hands down and look how they are treated, to be honest its them and only them that make me proud to be British at the minute for the stirling job they are all doing.

Well, I'm 100% German, lived here all my life and only been to the UK for holiday/business trips so far.
I still love your country and culture, that's why I'm here on PF. :P
I think the real merits of Britain are those that are so normal for you that you don't even realize their existence any more. Things like the british humour, landscape, pub culture (not binch drinking!!!
), organized health care, full english breakfast :P, etc...
It's normal that you tend to overrate the negative aspects, we're doing exactly the same over here. But then again, we've got similar same problems as you do. Greedy politicians, chav youth with no plans for the future and no respect for people who have...
I think basically, it's about the same all across europe and even the always praised Australia. It's not Britain coming to shit, it's society coming to shit...
But for me, living in the shit would be much more bearable with a full english breakfast + cuppa tea in the morning and a good night out in the local pub with my mates in the evening. Hence the sticker on my MR2's windscreen.

Peter 100% agree with you. a Lot of people ALWAYS thing the grass is greener. And its not until people live or go to other countrys when they actually think hang on its all the same problems here. I have done a lot of studying as part of degree and also been to fair few different places. And not once have i though OMG this place is the panisia (sp) to live. All got problems, and the ones we face in the UK or no different to anywhere else. Dont get me wrong i would love to work somewhere else for a few years just for the experience, but i would always say here it my home and i would always return.
Just another example i have some freinds over at the moment from France and Germany and one of the guy from France has worked over here and just been made redundandt and is panicking as said i need a job quick as i dont want to go back to France So always got some people thinking exactley same bought on country no matter where they are from.
For the ones who say proud to be English, Socciths Welsh and not British why? Im Wlesh yes of course but also class my self as British aswell. I dunno maybe me not being narrow minded or just way i think.....

I'm not proud to be British particularly, I just am...but the country now is shite in my opinion, which is why I got out and haven't looked back.
