Question on the law.
Regarding what you're allowed to do to someone you find breaking into your house?
I hear rumours that if they're upstairs its a free for all? Can anyone confirm this?
Does anyone know much on the subject or could anyone point me in the direction to a place i can find out.

Far as I know you're allowed to use anything 'to hand' to defend yourself if you feel threatened. If you're in bed and grab the lamp next to you it's all good, but running to the cupboard for your katana they won't go for
#3
it's whatever is deemed to be reasonable force that you can get away with
if they are running away you can't shoot them in the back, but if they have armed themselves with a knife from the kitchen and you are steven seagul, you can kick the fuck out of them and say they kept coming

I won't go into much detail, its just i've found myself in the lovely confuddle where 4-5 men are going to be coming through my door, my plan is to just stand there at the top of the stairs hitting them on the head with a hammer

but that is premeditated
make sure that tere are some screws and nails dotted about the place and some bits of wood that require renovation to give it the appearance that you were doing some diy
or, failing that, a pnumatic air gun removes the need to use a hammer altogether, and has much greater stopping pwoer
and penetration as well

As said in law you are allowed reasonable force, to defend yourself and property.
So if you knock him out and then run over his head with the car you might get done.
Plod are pretty good, although if he makes a complaint, certainly to start with you will be arrested on sus of gbh etc.
There are better ways to deal with this situation, one of them is not asking advice on a public forum, phone the EQUALIZER to start with, failing that the A TEAM.

someone is in for a rodgering by the sounds of it.
stand at the top of the stairs and piss on them as they ty to come up. failing that a harpoon should do it, get a big enough one and you could get all 5 if they are stood in a line

I was always under the impression you could justify reasonable force as long as it is less force than you were threatened with... i.e you can use your fists if they're using a knife, you can use a knife if they're using a gun etc.

Coleman, no disrespect but if your in the situation where 5 men are coming to get you then you need to be changing your mates and how you deal with people
Unless youve managed to go on a steven segal style one man war on the criminals in your neighbourhood then i cant possibly see how this could happen unless your mixing with the wrong company/causing shit.
If you are serious about defending your property in that fashion, then you need a layered defence system, starting with a secure periemeter with things such as spikes on fence and gates like i have and a PIR light out back to give early warning.
Spy holes on door and good locks etc are a wise deterrant to the "thug" flying kick!! many old wooden doors will kick in with one good boot
Then you want some form of weapons a couple meters from door so if someone trys to force past you, you can step back a few leaps quickly and arm yourself. You need to keep the weapons relatively hidden from someone storming past eg to get you while in bed, as you dont want them arming themselves as they break in!! I keep an iron bar and hand axe near door hidden behind umbrellas (moved for photo!). The axe is a distaction to scare off cowards or to throw at serious attackers to slow them down while you pick up the iron bar to give them a bashing as it has good reach!
Obviously you should have something else on the ground floor. Knife block in kitchen is usually adequate.
Then you need stuff in your bedroom for a night time attack. I keep a sharp full size axe by my bed for that ultimate self defence. I also keep cable ties in my bedside cabinet so you can restrain the assailaints properly once they have been immobilised.
The only problem is if you HAVE to use the axe then you need a "go pack" of stuff within easy access so you can do a runner if you cant clean things up. I keep a stash on the other bedside cabinet with several spare mobiles, tons of pay go sims, survival kit, maps, photos for fake ID and obviously a bag to put it in. Then the plan is to grab only what you need dependant on the situation.
Also you need to consider the non face to face attack scenario which in all likely hood is things like bricks at windows, or more seriously arson. Its a good way to get you out house or kill you in it. Hence i also keep fully charged BA kit near my bed to give me extended duration fresh air so i can plan escape front or rear depending on if they are loitering in wait to beat me up. The BA is dual purpose as it fits in with my fire risk assessment for getting trapped upstairs in a non arson fire with enough duration to breathe fresh air until fire brigade have arrived based on worst case response times for my area.
I must admit i probably have gone a bit over the top in some areas but you cant be too careful and in reality i wouldnt feel safe until i had an array of firearms as extra backup!!

Hair spray, deoderant or spray antiseptic is just as effective as pepperspray for the first 30 seconds or so which is all you need!!!
Also you cant get done for carrying/possessing those where as you can with pepperspray! Those new lynx bullet things seem ideal self defence weapons to me!!

PMSL at the 'go pack' incase you have to use the axe lol
warren, it would be pretty obvious to the cops if they found someone chopped in half in your house, who done it!
maybe loose the head and just have an axle handle under your pillow? can still done serious damage but maim, not kill.
unless you get a bit carried away and keep hammering the blows lol
for self defense, upstairs i keep the wife. and down stairs is a metal pole bye the front door lol

Fudgey, the axe is also part of my fire safety plan hence why its not just a handle. Idea being i can bash down the wooden partition wall into another room if landing is on fire and/or smash the window glass. I also keep a ladder in the landing cupboard to put out window.

warren do you live in a top floor flat or a house?
as the drop aint that far from a 1st floor window lol.
i think you may have gone a little ott tbh
as for the go pack, i think you just need to make frineds with a 'cleaner' not the sort you pay to do the washing and iron your undies, the other sort lol. or just dont use the axe in anger

Personally i find a rounders bat most suitable

Truthfullu, Get out as you are going to get a pasting and probably a bad one. If you take the first guy out at the top of the stairs, the only hope you have is if he falls backwards and knocks the other guys of balance.
Plus your hammer wont do a lot of good against 5 guys, 1 yes, 5 no.

Fudgey its a 2 storey house. The ladders so you dont fuck it up and fall breaking your leg, quite easy to do if your house is on fire etc.
Nah you dont need a cleaner, just half a roll of spare carpet, paint and spare floorboards as kept in my basement as leftovers from doing house up!!! That way you can deal with arterial spray on walls and new carpet and floors to hide any blood soakthrough.
