Default New Focus RS or BMW 135 M-Sport???

The last few months i have a big dilemma...I want to buy a new sport car
I know the new Focus RS will be a fantastic car but its FWD...
From the other side the Bmw has the same power-it is very quick car,and it is RWD!!!!
I am an onwer of cossie 4x4 and i want to move for something newer...
Between these two cars which would you buy?????

Sky TV did a road test putting both those cars against an Evo X FQ300

http://motoring.sky.com/features/vid...iple-test.aspx

Personally, I wouldn't get a 1 series because I'm not a woman.

Focus RS will hold its money well, a 135i bmw will be worth about 3 grand in 5 years. no point in throwing money away just cos a car is rwd !!! (Ford RS's are a legend too!)

I love the way people are calling the 135 a lardy soft car...

CLEARLY people who have never driven one!!! They are amazing cars - 6 pots at the front and 4 pots at the rear etc etc etc

I think you have a lovely dilema on your hands!!!!

It has an amazing engine, but it is heavy and it is softly sprung compared to say a wrx sti/evo 10, and apparently the FRS

A dilemma i'd like to have too...........

Nope, but coupled with it's softer ride and more roll, it feels a weighty car to me. If i was choosing one car for everything and taking my wife into consideration i'd go for the 135, it it was a car for me i'd go focus, if it's how the reports say it is.

exactly, and if not a kit from h&r or whoever will be available for a small fraction of the purchase price if you really find it necessary. i would be going for the RWD option every time

Focus rs, looks to have presence with its wide arches.
It should hold its value with its suspension trickery.

I dont think the RS will hold its money the way people are thinking. Maybe the first couple months but its not even a limited production car.

ditto ollie, its not a limited run car so cant see it holding valuie like 3drs, old focus RS's etc.

not sure what the prices are on either car but im GUESSING the 135 is a lot more money?

anyone know the nurburgring laptimes for either cars, should hopefully indicate if the 135 handles well or not. i love the way people are slagging off a car for having ride comfort too, aparently if it doesnt make your teeth rattle its not a good car?!

I love the 135i...but it'd be a really tough choice i reckon!

I do love my BMW's though, but the FRS looks and sounds like it will be very very good!

176. BMW 135i Coupe (E82) 8:39.2 143 ´07 306 / 1485

here we go, thats an 8:39.2 lap of the ring, 143kph top speed acheived on the lap (kph) and bhp/weight (306bhp, 1485kg) (thats for a non-MSport one by the way)

no figures on that website for the focus RS, but i can see the focus ST is actually quicker! 8:35!! didnt expect to see that TBH!

Why the hell would I spend Ł30k on a reasonable spec car then have to mod it to handle and ruin the ride with coilovers? Get the blinkers off. Please. It's not meant to be a balls out car like the FRS/ EVO FQ 320/ WRX STi so of course it's going to be softer edged, it's not aimed at the same market. It's got an exceptional engine but the one I drove just didnt excite me apart from putting my foot down and giggling at the power . Feels like a cruiser not a performance tool. FUGLY as well!

the hatchbacks are fugly, but i really like the coupes

everything i can find re: lap times does definately indicate that the 135i is a lot softer, aparently the FRS was looking to BEAT the 8:19 record set by the maganne, so that makes the 135i 20 seconds slower!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm sure the m-sport one would improve on that, but not 20seconds! wow that FRS is fast!

I dont think I am criticing it for being comfy at all , it's softly sprung and it feels weighty because of the roll and the sense of weight transfer.....it just doesnt feel as sharp as I was hoping.

I dont think anyone would seriously think the BMW would be faster around the ring anyway would they? i certainly wouldnt!!

They are a little too different to compare on performance alone IMO, the BMW will be built better, nicer to drive and own and probably less embarassing if you dont want the 'look at me' spoilers etc.

IF you just want a car to hoon around in and have fun on every journey then id take the RS

blinkers? wtf?

why would coilovers ruin the ride?

modifying a car, no matter how expensive it is, is a matter of personal choice. why would not do it if it didn't exactly meet your requirements?

The M sport pack transforms the car. Dunno if it would make 20sec difference but i bet it wouldnt be far off.

I tend more to the 135i M-sport,I am not going to join track days or Nurb..so i dont give a lot of attention about ring times...
I want to use my car for road use-everyday.So i want to have both worlds..speed and comfort, lux and sporty, and i think bmw managed better..
My heart says to buy the new focus rs..but my brain says go for the bimmer....
I have seen many videos on youtube with tuned 135i...and i was socked how fast there was....Maybe i am going to order the 135i...

Sean has a 135i Msport... LOVES IT!

FAST CAR. Classy as well... they do look a bit noddy car to me though!

I was reading in EVO mag that Frank Sytner also owns one and reckons its THE best car BMW sell or have made for a LONG time!

Personally? I wouldn't be spending Ł30k on a new fooking one series when you can get a bloody M6 for the same money if you really want a BMW!

Or an Audi RS4 or RS6 or Ferrari or Porsche or something cooler than a fast Noddy car!

I'd be amazed if the M pack made as huge a difference as that but i'd like to see for myself.

Why are we comparing cars that are intended for different purposes and at least Ł5k apart in price though?

Its not that big a problem for you, either car will be a hell of a lot better at anything than your sapph (well maybe not breaking down!) Ł30,000 for the 135m sport version, its a lot of money and most 1 yr old or less examples have lost Ł5000 already. Personally, I would go for the e90 m3 if its an M sport BMW you want.

I would wait till you have driven both and see what you like the best. What you will find on here is that a lot of people are saying FWD ruins it and its gay because only real men own RWD cars but if its lapping the ring in around 8.19 then it must be good.

To be honest i wasn't a big fan of BMW until they produced this amazing engine with twin turbos...and i know it has big potentials if you want to upgrade...i do like turbo cars..
I am not interesting about M cars...I have seen from standstill 0-400 M3 vs 135i and guess what..135 won...None turbos engine like M3-M5 its difficult to improve and you have to spent a lot of money to get the power and speed..
The 135 its a different story....it has turbos...and with just a chip and a bigger exhaust transform the car..thats what i like it.

I agree about Turbos to be honest.... I still couldn't bring myself to spend all that money on a 1 series though dude.

Interestingly did you see the next M5 and M6 and probably M3 I imagine will be Twin Turbos?

is the 135 the same engine as the 335? if so i have been reliably told that they run very conservative power figures and can gain MASSIVE power improvements with minor modification. hell i've seen remapped 335ds (thats a DERV!) put out 380+bhp!!
