You can't take anything of your own in, but if they have the facility you can listen to a cd on their headphones.

it's a definate no. if you want to see what MRI's are capable of them have a look on youtube, scary stuff so don't take any metal in there. you should also have to sign a form about not having swarf in your eyes.

The machine makes a right racket, so you'll probably be given earphones. Last time I had one, it was Radio 2 though!

Hi Mate Had one 2 weeks ago it takes about 15/20 mins although I had to have xrays before to make sure there was no metal fragments in my eyes from work as I work in engineering, apparantly the MRI scanner could pull any fragment which has become embedded n my eyeball straight out and blind me, on the music side I got to listen to radio 1 .

Yep, the same as cossydave said above.
I have to go for one next week, and the mri i have to use just has the soothing sound of the machine clunking away !!
At least i now know why the form asks about the metal fragments..

i had one when diagnosed with my brain tumor, they gave me headphones with a local radio stn to listen to but tbh it wasnt too long and yea i did have to sign a form about swarf in my eyes etc and that i had no metal plates in me or screws or bolts after an op etc..
the magnetic force used is equivilent to one tesla enough to lift a transit off the foor... hmmm i wouldnt want swarf pulled through my eye oooooouch.

there fucking cool machines MRI scanners, i work for a dry lining and ceiling company and the past 2 hospitals that we have worked on we have kitted out the shell off the room for the MRI scanner to go into, any metal has to be non ferrous, brass screws etc, very very expensive!

I never normally get claustrophobic but I spent nearly an hour in an MRI scanner having upper and lower spine scans and it was horrible! Imagine being slid into a drain pipe the exact width of your shoulders and your nose about 1cm off the top (so close your eyes can't focus on the roof) then loads of loud noises and making it really hot to top it all off!

It screwed around with my head a bit after half an hour!

I had MRI at the hospital in Barnet, as was told I was too "big" for my local hospital, but there's fatter, I m,ean bigger peeps than me done there.
Was good anyway much as above took around 1/2 hour, no headphones though, and jesus yes they are noisy, hard being still for 1/2 hour though.
The babe in the reception area though made it all worth while, man she was nice!!

Do you get the results there and then? I presume a radiologist or someone will be present? or do i have to wait even longer for the results?

You will have to wait for the results, I booked an appointment with my consultant for the week after the scan and he went through the scan with me then and gave me the DVD to take home.

Ask them to put this on:

Or any other HARDCORE music which might scare them. Just for a giggle!
