Complete head gasket set,
New exhaust manifold and downpipe nuts (not crucial but I would ),
Crankshaft pulley bolt. (crucial as the pulley is free floating until the bolt is tightened),

Wouldn,t of thought so ,but this is the first time a belts snapped on me so don,t know what to expect.RAC man says pistons are never damaged with a belt snap, just the valves.
If the rods are f*cked then deffo fit a complete engine.

Off now to buy a Ł400 escort as a runaround for the mrs till it,s done.

some people used to fit a new crank pulley as well, sometimes even with a new bolt they pulley can slip..... depends how much he likes the car as to how much he wants to spend on it.

Was told the belts are good for 100,000 or 10 years.Mine had done 72,000 and is only 7 years old
RAC man says they should be changed at 60,000 ,but what do they know.lol

i have seen a lot cam belt failures on engines befor the manufactures interval. which when all said and done is only a guide when to change the belt under normal conditions.
userly it is a tensioner or water pump that fails and causes the problem
and also if the car has been not looked after very well or abused these are all factors that affect belt life

i change the belt on my car every 2 years approx 20000miles

not all brakedown men are mindless dim wits, some actully know what they are on about

My mothers snapped on her focus the other week, a year after having a new belt and kit fitted by rapid fit. the bill came Ł850 to fix it, but she didnt have to pay, they took responsibility, although they did try to get her to pay for the parts and wave the labour charge. ford say that black top zetec belts should last 100k or 10 years, silver top 50k miles or 5 years, but as they guy at ford told me, thats not set in stone, its just a guideline

Didn,t know you had to remove the cams to get to the head bolts.

On the 1.7 Zetec SE engine they reduced the cambelt interval from 100k /10 years to 80k/5 years due to a lot of failures.

Seen a lot of 1.6 zetec SE's going wrong recently!!!

tons of the engines available cheap so may well be less hassle to engine swap.

Am tempted to just engine swap now i,ve stripped it all down. With a secondhand head ,belts, gaskets e.c.t ,i,m looking at about Ł200.Can get an engine 50,000 miles for Ł300.Will take the head off and see if pistons are maked,if so deffo engine swap.
I thought my rs was unreliable.lol

Zetec SE's are usually pretty reliable. certainly more so than most abused CVH turbos!!
