Anybody ever snapped a Koni shock before

noticed yesterday that there was a blue residue around the strut top, decided to investigate further, put a 10mm spanner on the top and noticed that it would turn freely, turns out that the top of the threaded section has sheared!

seen it before normally caused by fitting with an over zealous air gun operator

how much m8? i've got koni's in the back of mine an i got a set of 2nd hand front's but i dunno how good they are. is there anyway to test em off the car?
