Powdercoating a set of wheels....
Hi all
Just bought a new wet of wheels for my car and they need a refurb so I'm thinking about getting them powdercoated. Is the finish much more durable than a paint finish?
Any companies that people can recommend? I can do all the prep work before hand as I do media blasting at work so that isn't a problem. Any idea of how much it will cost?
Thanks
Rich

yeah i remember that using a clapped out one loaded to the gunnels with plastering gear in the boot, went all over scotland with it on 20quid for the week, was a cunt to get up hills but was superb for mpg!

Ł60 a wheel is way OTT, to be done properly they will be acid dipped first to remove grease etc, even from your fingers the enzymes wil stop total adherance of the powder, we used to have to wear cotton gloves due to this.
There is absolutely no comparison between powder(done properly) and paint, powder is king by a mile, the products we did had a 25 year warranty against any flaking.

Cool, cheers for that tabetha! I'll get some more quotes
If I were to blast them first and fill any marks, will the acid dipping affect the filler?

The acid will eat the filler, can you not weld(tig) then machine/grind, does not have to be perfect as will be covered.
I dare say not all places acid dip first anyway, but that price is high imo.
I used to do m/bike frames all the time, wheels, car parts, even a few bed frames, in nice candy colour.
