I never would have expected Piranhas to be boring
Always had this feeling that they would be attacking the glass to try and get at you lol....
Film feeding time!

Well they have had a nibble at there food over the night, gold fish has half its tail missing. defo boring fish, they just sit there and dont move much, but im not to bothered tbh, not like i was expciting them to do aquarobics in the tank lol, they look cool imo, and feeding time should be fun, so overall, very happy, cheers for the input everyone

I used to starve mine once a month... so they would go an entire week without any type of food.....
They would soon gobble it up then!
Its not cruel, it actually helps them keep that little bit of predatorial instinct.

Piranha's are hardy fish so can put up with crap water and temperature changes, dont feed them everyday and change their diet often,
I started off with 8 and last man standing over 3 years was Percy
They got fed on speedy swiming fish, bacon, raw tuna, mackeral, chicken etc, and pretty much any meat that may be left over from mealtimes.
If you want to try it, starve them for a couple of days then put a mirror at 1 side of the tank, they may show their colours off abit more to it as a sign of machismo to what it thinks is another piranha.
When setting your tank up make a small den/hiding place big enough for 1 of them (pointless making it big enough for 2 as you wont see em then![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)

i sold all of my tropical fish i had in my big tank to my mate yesterday, moved the piranha i had into my big tank, and went and bought another three bigger piranha last night, so now my big tank is a piranha tank. i did keep my large sail fin plec, ive give him the small tank to himself, couldnt bring my self to get rid of him, its only a fish, but im quite attached to him![Red Faced](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
heres a few pics of the new piranha![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

Will do maria, cheers for the advice. i had a big castle and and barrel in there when i had the tropical in it, but they would just get in the way. i know what you mean about them liking to huddle, as soon as one moves away from the pack so to speak, the rest are straight after it. i was a bit concerned that the three i got last night wouldn't settle with the two i got the other day, but as soon as i put them in, they all huddled up, was also concerned as the three are bigger than the first two, but they all seem to be getting on swimmingly (no pun intended)

You can get a catfish to go in there, forgot its name but its got a hardback and is abit of a nasty bastard itself, but can live with Piranha's due to its sorta shell like back,
After a while then Piranha's leave your tank looking like a public toilet

Was reading on wikipedia about the fish that can go in with them, think ill just keep it piranha tbh. They do make a mess of the tank fella, ive cleaned out all the bits of dead fish today, and done a little water change, its still a bit messy. ive just bought the new Fluval U3 filter today, have been using a Fluval 3+, had it a while, so i was due a new one, and apparently the U3 is meant to be really good.

Mine used to be scared as anything, I certainly couldn't have photgraphed them like that.
The only time mine didn't mind seeing you was feeding time, they would get a bit carried away.. they seemed very wild.
