it's doubtful it's supposed to be on all the time, i only ever hear the fan on my laptop when converting video or when i have it sat on the duvet and theres little airflow, laptops are designed to run cool during normal operation.

The fan on my HP is on almost all of the time. Check the BIOS settings as there is an option on mine to run it continuously on AC power.

I dont know much about laptops but my old one i use for wireless around the house has got a air vent on the bottom of it, so if sit with it on my lap the air cant be drawn in, so it will get hotter and hotter.

I would guess they havn't fully screwed the heatsink assembly back onto the cpu properly and its not making full contact causing a serious hot spot. This would make the laptop think its cooking and thus put the fan on full speed. I may be completly wrong but thats my thoughts. If there is a flap underneath for cpu inspection it is worth taking it off and checking the screws to make sure they are fully tightened.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Adam.

fan shouldnt be on all the time - was it always on before they "fixed" it?

if the fan stays on all the time it could eventually wear out prematurely

as above make sure its on like a wooden surface and not your lap. there is no where for the air to get in and out otherwise.

fan shouldnt be on all the time tech support taking the piss lol
