Default FFS, I know why Phil broke his car now...(UPDTAED)

Well, mine has just broke down AGAIN!!!

Driving along fine, just coming onto boost and 'pop, pop, BANG!' goes the exhaust, engine dies and coast to a holt

Panic 'cos in the middle of picking up kiddie from school rush hour with buses behind me etc etc

Pulled off road and wait there for a while, try to start car and the whole thing just shakes

Well, first point of call - check for a spark. Did this first of all by resting coil lead against the engine hook - saw spark
Then tested a HT lead with tester - fine it sparks

Ring up breakdown ROFL!!!

He comes out, we test numerous things, changed fuel ECU's with no joy

Phone call to Philip Eddowes and we explain we have also loosened the fuel supply from fileter to metering head and not much fuel pressure there, infact just a dribble
Also re-primed system a few times to build pressure back up, undo injector fuel line and - nothing!!!! not even a dribble

Phil explains that the system works on pressure, not fuel supply (take his word for it) and that it wouldn't leak when turned over etc etc

So, 5 hours from first breaking down at 3.13pm I eventually see a flatbed turning up to take me home

What have I got to do people, is it really all worth this hassle????

Drive it down to APT and leave it there! I'm sure between them Gary and Christian will sort it out.

As Dave says Jamz LOL
I have been told they have logged it as a 'no recovery' so I can get it taken to APT if needs be for no charge to myself

When I rang, Gary and Christian were out mapping (had a very short, but friendly chat with Beccy on the phone though (she was washing the car ROFL!!)

Way too complicated for me to understand, give me stuff to check whilst car is still here rather than at APT and I'll go do it as tools are by the side of the car as replacing the fuel filter now as 'maybe' it just might help (wishful thinking at it's best) ROFL

UPDATE!!!

Right, chhanged fuel filter and primed systema few times to fill it up etc etc etc

right, still won't start LOL

BUT...

There's a 'pot' to the back endof the metering head with 2 black pipes coming off the top (fuel lines) and when I turn keys off it goes something like this...'clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk' louder then getting quiter as it goes on (does it about 3-4 times)

Why??

Not sure the best way to check the pressure regulator, but basically it holds the fuel at a cirtain pressure, if its broke than it just lets the fuel drain back into the tank and there will be no pressure.

With the outlet of the fuel filter disconnected, turn the ignition on and using a bowl see how much fuel comes out, if it pumps loads out the chances are its the pressure regulator.

Matt.

That pot is the fuel accumulator (sp)

Its to stop the pulse of the fuel pump affecting the injector flow (so the injectors don't pulse the fuel)

Matt, explain a little more if you can

You mean the bottom (outlet pipe that goes to metering head) let it obviously drain of fuel from filter yeah

Then what...

PM me and phone me if you prefer

Yeah disconnect the bottom fuel filter outlet.
Turn your ignition on as if you was priming the system.
You should get loads of fuel pumping out.

You need to find where the fuel system is loosing the pressure.

I believe it can be one of 2 places (assuming there are no leaks!!)
1, the non return valve (which i think is on one end of the fuel pump)
2, the fuel pressure regulator.

Matt, cracked off pipe from metering head that comes from fuel filter

I tell you now - there's plenty of pressure there ROFL!!!

Person holding fuel line didn;t want to go no further as was saying it must be supplying fuel because new filter had been filled up with fuel...

anyway, primed system again a few times, did same to an injector fuel line and NO pressure there

I'm thinking it could still be one of 2 things then:

1, fuel pressure regulator
2, mettering head, the square bit that has the 5 pipes has a diaphram in it.

I don't know how you would test these though, without swaping them for a spare one.

BTW, have also cracked two of the outlets ontop on metering head (fuel supply to injectors) and turned over - nothing spills out...

I still get the clunk, clunk, cluink kid of noise too - sounds like coming from accumulator to me...

Hi there,

My mate had the same problem and its came down to 3 things in the end !

1. He jumped a tooth so cam belt wasnt on right
2. Had 2 pin pricks in the boost hoses that really did effect this from not working propley !
3. The metering unit wasnt 100%

Also may i add when u crack the car over not a great deal of fuel will leak out of the metering unit but if a undo the fuel filter it will piss out big time ! I dont know y this is just one of thoses things !
