Ok just found the post i was looking for, looks like it's a bit on the low side, it has peaked at 13v but i see your ideally looking for between 13.5 and 14volts.

It's a bit low, but that may be due to where you're picking up the 12v from. Try measuring it directly at the battery, the alternator, the ecu and fuel pump (seperately) with a multimeter to get an idea of your loom condition. If you have 13.8v+ at the battery and alt, but not at the ecu and fuel pump, then you may need to look at sorting out your loom.

Ok cheers, i do have a new fuel pump loom to install so no worries there, yeah the secs monitor is wired right into the ecu plug, so might be worth looking at the battery and alternator, i do suspect the Alt. is not as good as it should be. Thanks for the help! Wouldn't be surprised if it's the loom though!

As mentioned above but I will clarify....

The monitor reads the power at the ECU terminals.

This voltage will ALWAYS be lower than the actual battery voltage due to voltage drop in loom wiring.

All looms will drop voltage to a point even the best ones !

This is due to the high peak currents drawn by the fuel injectors which the monitor averages out to get a reading (as does a multimeter).

Yes that is getting a bit tiring now i must admit!

Thanks for all the great replies, I'll look into it a bit further before i decide what to do, I think i'll start with the alternator as already mentioned, it can't do any harm to replace a 16 year old part. Failing that, i'll have to buy a new loom and hide it from the wife

renewing the alternator to battery cable improves battery and ecu voltage a huge amount!
