Default Going to the Pod on Sunday but.....

Hi guys,

Going to Santa Pod on Sunday but here's the thing: I don't know whether to have or go or not myself because my car has just had a brand new clutch fitted and I've done 300 miles on it since. the first 150 or so I took easy. Now I rev through the whole range and I'm not aggressive on the changes. The thing is I don't know whether I should take it to do a 1/4 mile, don't really want to launch it. Will it be OK? I probably will have done about 400miles on it before I get to the Pod.

Cheers!!

if you dont want to launch it dont take it up the strip.

That said, I would, but I have no mechanical sympathy

I was sort of hoping if people knew when you can have the green light to launch/really give it the beans for one run. I have driven the car hard recently, but never launched it. Wondering if anyone knows if it is OK to do so.

You haven't detailed what kind of clutch it is as it makes a difference?

If you're not going to launch it properly, whatever, then there's not really much point in taking it on the strip

It should be run-in by now...

but remember they are not designed to be launched! If you can afford to replace the clutch again then go for it if not then dont - simples

As above, I have never heard of anyone 'running in' a new clutch, if it were me then I would definately be doing it!

Because not all of us can afford 400+bhp monsters, and still want the fun and experience of doing it perhaps?

Then don't watch Westy - simples!

You need to run in any clutch. Running in is where two surfaces mate - Your flywheel is old and likely to have a particular wear pattern from previous use. The Friction plate is obviously going to have high and low spots and the pressure plate is simply a machined surface.

BMW for M-power cars recommend something like 1200 gear changes before applying more than 50% throttle.
