Default Ear defenders

Right chaps, i drive far too many stripped out cars on motorway commutes and it kills me. I have a big bag of ear plugs but they only do so much.

I'm looking for some decent ear defenders, ideally a couple of them, for me and a passenger.

Anyone know where i can get some decent ear muffs?

Why do you drive stripped out cars on the moterway!

Get some shot gun defenders, they are awsome!

Cause i don't live at a racetrack.....

Plus, i have been in between cars, so i have been using the Bonus for normal driving...i have sorted that out now but with summer coming i'll be in and out of my cars a lot, i'm dreading the FRST as the 044 fuel pump is right behind me

Shotgun ear defenders sound like what i have in mind?

Links? Costs?

Should be readily avaiable at a builders/tradesman/tool supply place i'd think, alternatively there's always Ebay. Maybe you could get fluffy pink set with the matching mittens

Ahhhh quality Ed!! Thank's mate!

Love the Berretta ones, anything linked with shooters is always a winner with me! lol

But the army ones are cheap and have a certain charm, and then the last set will match my car

Choices, choices!

Thank you

For going offshore i got a pair of earplugs that are made from a mould taken of your ear. They fit perfectly (obviously!) and do the trick. They block out harsh noise but allow lower tones like speaking to be heard. They are less obiously seen and less chance of looking like a tool on th motorway with massive ear defenders on!

Your local deaf/hearing aid shop will do them. £70ish i think.

Thats the babies!

I had a right struggle choosing the colour though as there were 3 choices, "flesh", blue or orange.

I felt like flesh made it look like a hearing aid, blue represents rangers and chelsea so had to go for BRIGHT orange!

you can get a kit to make up your own at home. i made 2 pairs for the bike, one with the small speakers from in ear phones moulded in there for intercom.

the gadget show tested some in ear phones that block out external noise and rated them a couple of weeks ago, might be worth a look. can then have tunes on the move as well

PMSL, I'm sure she's entirely supportive of your car and bike collection like all women usually are....

I'm a deaf c*nt so I'm ok, i don't need to waste 15 quid on ear defenders!

LOL

COZZFATHER- You'd love a go of me wearing those!

ED- Passenger seat is always open, not keen on letting my cars be driven, it's my job to break them! Im at Combe 25th April

The moulded ones look good, don't care what i look like though, the pain of droning exhausts, wind, road noise is just too much. After half an hour i wanna slash my wrists, and no, i don't want a sensible car

Get a set of electronic ones, around £20, they cut out any sound above 86db, instantly, I know people who use them for shooting as it saves them taking them off to speak to people, they have a in built mic and volume control.

I had a pair of the big cheap ear defenders from Focus Do It All (or whatever its called) - bright orange things. They were/are bloody brilliant! Cheap and make other road users stare

I've got some Peltor Sport Tacs, theyre awesome, got all the ANR gear in them and are slim profile aswell. Cost the best part of £100 mind, but sooo much better than the cheap £15 versions from the likes of Draper etc.

Essential if you are often in noisey environments (I have noisey hobbies and work in an airport!) - only got one set of ears, I don't want to end up deaf when I'm old!

some cunts on this thread!

But yeah i am buying at least one set tonight, there are noiser cars out there for sure. I mean, the Bonus pisses any static test. But if i'm behind the wheel for more than a thrash about, it kills me.

Seriously, the cars i'm punting about have no insulation, carpets, door cards, rooflining, road noise off sticky tyres, fucked bearings. Then you have engine, exhaust, fuel pumps screaming and echoing. You get my drift?

I jumped in the shitty Bonus and ripped from Bath to Knockhill, but if i didn't have earplugs i'd have driven off a bridge for an easy way out by birmingham

Just wanna see what options i got, cheers boys

P.S- Cunts! You know who i mean

Peltor i think you meant

Yep you can buy the peltor rally practice headsets and intercom just like they wear between stages in WRC cars but they are pricey. You can get them on ebay occasionally, youd probably want only the basic intercom unit such as the FMT10 or FMT15 as they are cheaper than the highly specced ones that cost like £300 plus they are good though and with the right adaptors you can plug in mobile phones the lot.

i reckon meself that the best ones will be what the crews who spanner on top fueler nitro drag cars use,if you ever go to santa pod you see them casually grafting while a 8000 hp nitro donkey spits fire right next to them,i have hurt my ears in the stands so them boys have the right gear imo.
