cheap tuning isnt always the best way.

telling us what car you have may help us point you in the right direction.....

Oh yeh, sorry guys!

Its a mk2 mondeo with a 1.8ltr silvertop zetec! The ECU is the original one!

I've spoken to MSD and they quoted 375 for a 'custom remap on the OE ECU' !
This seems a but over the top for what I'm after! Not after maximum performance yet lol!
This is just a temporary bit of extra BHP whilst I find and pay for all the bits for a turbo conversion (that's a few years off yet )

I'm pretty mobile in terms of location if its at the right price but I'm near altrincham which is WA16 area !

Thanks for the great advice so far but please keep it coming....I'm hungry for info and help (and food actually lol)

Was going to do the 1.8l > 2.0l mod and had a drive in a 2ltr and want more power lol !

Plan to sell the new cams once I turbo anyway and just stick some 2ltr ones but in mean time looking at some stage 2 comp cams (2nd Hand) !

But any way.... I digress! Any more info on a decent re-map and engine mod bloke in north west ?!

Cheers !

Ill re-phrase then.... Anyone know someone who can help me re-map the standard ecu cheaper than MSD ?
Also, I'm not looking for the perfect map, just a map that will work better with uprated cams, tb manifolds etc!

Cheers

Contact Urban Racing in St Helens, they are now involved with mapping and selling chips although i cannot remember the name of them (Prochips maybe !!). Steve is the mapping guy but i believe is often based at/with Blueflame Exhausts.

*sigh*

Cheaper doesn't always mean better. The money you waste here you will only piss down the exhaust in unburnt fuel from an incorrectly or poorly written map.

But the choice is yours ultimately.

I just dunno if you realise how tiny amount of extra bhp you're gonna get for whatever you pay. What are your aims with this engine, how much bhp do you think you can get with cams and remap?

dont know.... The 1.8 > 2.0 ltr mod gives an extra 20 hp or so!

Im doing that mod + performance cams + aftermarket intake + Performace exhaust manifold + Sports cat + performance cat-back + re-map !

So expecting around 40+ BHP extra!

Anyone agree or disagree ?

What would you recommend I do then ?

Im not mechanic so sticking to bolt on's at the mo and have a tight budget so cant afford the full on turbo yet! And cant afford to have the car off the road whilst I increase the internal capabilities etc!

At a rough guess, that list of things is gonna cost you over Ł1000, probably lots more. And 40bhp? Go ahead and do it, but it's an expensive way to go about getting a faster car.

i used to own a 2.0 ltr si with the full rs kit it was the later one and very rare, i couldn't spend on a car that isn't owt special when for not much dosh theres somthing out there better and faster.

i have had 2.0 ltr sri's and 2.5 +2.6 sri's plus gsi's and they are a cracking car standard and well cheep now.

theres a geezer in warrington called dp motorsport who fucks about with some crazy fast cars,my mate knows him and says he's good.
