Default slick tyre users

just been to have my slicks put on my track wheels and the fella said that they have been asked in the past not to bother balancing them

i asked another fella who works at the rolling road next door and he said the same

is this true?

i just cant see it for some reason, if it is im sure there would be a reasonable answer

just i cant think of one

If your slick tyres are new then i would suggest you spin them up on the wheels and see if any weights actually needed , the lead weights are a pain in the arse , they dont stay on unless well taped , you dont want lead weights spining off on a race track ,they also get in the way of caliper clearance etc...
A slick tyre will also move around your rim over the course of its life , mark 1 and see , this renders balancing useless.
If your tyres are used and covered in "pick up " then dont bother balancing them , the rubber will move around so much after theyre warm that its a waste of time .
You must be sure your rims are straight tho , spin then on a balancer without tyres to check this .

235/610 x17" .

if you know youre rims are bent , chuck em away !
they will give you vibrations with even a completely new and round tyre !

forgive me for sounding dim then, but why is a road tyre balanced?

is it because of the treads that are all over the place so will make it uneven, compared to a slick that is, well, nice and flat/round?

I'd be very very surprised if they fitted onto a standard arched and lowered RST.205mm is the widest normally seen on one, that extra 30mm would cause rubbing I'd say.As for the 610 diameter,my slicks which are 570 just about fit into the rear arch without rub,and my RST is only -25mm lowered.Pity,as Tony your selling at a good price.Regards,Micky
