Default cctv advice

Right after an annoying night i need some advice on a cheap but effective cctv setup for my house and at my parents. At their house as my cossie has been stored there for a while now, and my dad always parks infront of it. Found out someone tried to force his drivers door open on the drive but didnt take it and obviously im worried it was to try and get at/take the cossie so could do with cctv there but also at ours were having prblems with the ppl in the house behind us winding our dogs up and the wankers have reported us to the rspca again so need to find out what bullshit they have made up this time in the morning when i get a call back (had them out just after when it snowed on a wasted trip as aparently the dogs were left out in the snow with no shelter, well the puppy was never left in the snow on her own, max is an alaskan malamute so like he'd give a fuck anyway and the end brick shed has stable doors and the bottom one is always open )

Now gonna make the fence as high as poss so they cant lean over and wind the dogs up, but also want cctv so i can see what goes on while were not in, and also when i sort the cossie and bring it to mine want a camera down the side of the house too!!

Right now rant is over with

At my mums just 1 cam will do for now, but here ideally a 2 cam set up, guessing a pci card is easiest way into the pc and record onto a hard drive?! Also how big would the drive need to be to record say 7days a weeks worth of footage?!
Plus what software is best to use etc etc

Cheers for any advice

Depends how much you wanna spend mate, if a budget set up is what your after then probably best to try maplin electronics (www.maplin.co.uk). As for saving space on your hard drive, you can get cctv triggers, they work the same as an outside light sensor.

Cheers

one of my suppliers now do a security light with movement detector but also with a digital camera built into it,

i think it also can be linked to a monitor & pc

ideal as you get illumination right where you want

not cheap like around Ł100+vat,but a very simple idea

I use a hard drive recorder like this. You can define an area on the screen to detect motion then if anything moves in that bit it will start to record for selected amount of time. You need a hard drive, but may be able to use an old pc one if you have any, and a camera. But it worked well for me when i needed it. Only thing was once had the cameras installed and recording the little scrots never came near again. Guess it's a good deterent when they see the camera...

Exactly, you can even buy dummy cameras, proper fitted to the wall jobs, very cheap but the downside is they dont record obviously, and in a case like this i think id want it recording to catch any antics that is probably going on while your out

As you say some people need to get a fcking life of their own and stop piss farting around in other peoples lifes/business

Tell me about it!! the motion ones would work at my mums as it'll mean it only goes off when someone walks up her drive etc but with ours cos Max lives outside and is always walking about it'll go off all the time anyway!!! So would probably just be best having it recording to a HD 7days a week. Gonna be sticking a big fuck off willow fence asap anyways and we were talking about fencing up the back half of the garden anyways so its for us and not the dogs.

We had loads of trouble with a family over the road, they put my windows through on my r32 and also 206 and slashed the tyres, they through wood and bricks at my 4 year old daughter needing hospital attention, they keep steeling our bikes which we keep retrieveing from their shed, police didnt give a flying fuck. I put cameras up, that records on the pc, problems soon stopped. Best news of all is that last night someone has gone to their house and smashed every double glazed window with a hammer and theres brake fluid all round her car!!! What goes around comes around, useless degenerate fucks, couldnt have happened to a more horrible family. Police are coming round today but I think I forgot to put my camera on last night so sadly I wont be of any help
Hardware wise, make sure you get an infrared camera as the red glow seriously spooks the little bastards as they know the camera is on and watching. The software I used I got off the internet and basically you set a percentage level of movement on the image so if the trees blow in the wind it doesnt record but if someone passes x ammount it does. Then in the morning it shows you a timeline of the night and the red bits are motion and blue bits are non-motion so you can quickly flick through and see the important bits from the night. If it does detect motion it records half a minute before and half a minute after it stops just to make sure, I'll track the name down for you.

i heard aswell not sure if true or not but you have to have a date/time also on the video aswell
for it to stand up in court not sure how true though ....... maybe worth checking up on though as im sure you would want to prosecute

obviously after switching cctv offf and beating them senseless first

So can that software allow a PC to record 2 cameras at once onto it?!

ideally for a while at least will want to watch what goes on in the garden with the dogs the whole time their out and no1 is in, plus have a cam at the side of the house on motion detection as and when someone walks down the side as the cossie will be parked there (1 day anyway )

this setup looks good on ebay to me if it does what i need?!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-WIRELESS-CAM...634.m333.l1262

Got a call from rspca today 5days later, what a waste of their time yet again, complained to them that there was no water bowl, dogs being noisey and max gets left outside, and she said when she looked over the fence there WAS a water bowl (theres actually several as maddie likes to hide things and max can be clumsey ) and the dogs qere quiet till she looked over and came to see who it was, and educated the thick idiots who rang that not all dogs like to live inside, FFS malamutes are designed to live out in -20 in alaska!!!!!!!!!! and he chooses to stay out as we used 2 have to physically drag him in to start with then just gave up

Said aparently we may get a complain from council now but she's happy the dogs are fine and said the cctv will keep the council happy as it shows were monitoring whats going on with the dogs etc, hopefully showing us what the neighbours are doing too!! Althou the back fence is now alot higher so im sure were gonna get complaints bout that too at some point

That software will record whatever you throw at it. The weak link will be the DVR card you plug into your PC. The cheap ones aren't all that and when you get more than one camera on them they struggle. The more expensive ones will take 4-8 cameras at hi-res all day long. The software will record anything you want, one camera all the time and the other on motion shouldnt be a problem, you cofigure each camera seperate on their. The problem I had was that a 250gb hard drive gets full quite quick and you have to leave the pc on all the time but the pros out weigh the cons. That software is very user friendly and gives you a lot of options. Im pretty sure I used there demo as its full function but if you ever take a screen capture it has there name on it but for some reason when you export video (save as a mpg to watch again) it doesnt which cool. Im no expert by any means and I found it a piece of piss to get going, just banged a DVR card in, threw video lead over roof and in through window frame, put a 2nd hard drive in PC and left it to it. Stopped them little twats and caught someone nicking a car a few houses down (the drunk thief got it stuck on the kerb outside our house!!). HTH

I want to set up CCTV for my garage and house but at the front it will be highly visible and at back the garage faces public access and is only 8ft high so within reach.

I dont want to attract more attention and i certainly dont want to attract rock throwing kids trying to smash cameras just for fun!! I could put garage camera on a pole but not subtle

What DVR car did u use mate?! would rather get one i know is going to work!!

Space wise will check whats been recorded regularly and obviously delete what isnt needed, tbh its only going to be on constant for a while so i can see whats going on then prob switched to motion later on down the line!! althou the dogs will prob need keeping an eye on the fookers

Mines just a cheap ebay one, im only running one camera and its okay. Based on the connexant chipset, theres shit loads of them on there but for what you want Id aim a bit higher. Mines more of a deterant than anything else. Don't get me wrong, you can see peoples faces good enough to identify but for an extra 20-30 quid I reckon youd see a big difference. That and the card was a bastard to get a driver for that worked, obvioulsy buying from yon pong dong there was f' all support!

So basically then all i need is the DVR card and the cameras and software and thats it?! just wondered as the one i saw on ebay has an AV receiver which if i dont need wont bother with, not sure if thats just for ppl wanting to use it with a video or dvd recorder rather than a PC?!
