There is only one dealer as far as I am aware, and as they manufacture the cars spares won't be a problem. The engines are all chevvy V8's, from a "little" 5.7 small block upto any of the LS1-8 engines, or the big block chevvys that can go over 10 litres .... Servicing on those engines is dirt cheap, as there are millions of them about, so nothing out of the ordinary. The beauty of them is it is a big V8, so massively under-stressed .

It was desinged and sold as a kit car, and engine access is awsome (the whole rear end of the bodywork articulates) so working on them as a home mechanic is not too hard... A supeb bit of kit by all accounts.

Totally agree with the Ferrari servicing, I have done a lot of reseatch and running a 360 would be loads cheaper than a big power cossie im my eyes

I have been told by numerous people that 6k is a fairly average figure to consider running a Ferrari for a year, what do you think as l had looked at getting a 360 or have seen a very nice 430

For 40k I could build myself the ultimate sleeper and embarress the Rari and GTR owners at the traffic lights...

All depends on the milage you are going to do, obviously I am only going on what is written down for servicing costs etc, but for a 360 I would have to say 2-3k for a year? I would only go for a manual as well as F1 is telephone numbers to fix apparently, a new gearbox pump is 6k, and a complete box is 18k

What could you build for 40k that would give you consistant 0-100-0 in 9.3 secs? Don't forget that we are talking cars here that are the complete package, not just a stupidly fast nail etc

are all the escort and sierra owners also smoking crack nowadays

out of the two the 360 if it was a normal drive, the GTR if it was only for weekend blasts/trackdays

I need to do some research into this abit more, l like 996t 997t 996GT2/3 997GT3 or a 360 or 430 l wish l could make my fucking mind up, the Ferraris just strike me as impractical cars for shutting around town in, the Porsches would take a beating all day long and not miss a beat

996/997 would get my vote over pretty much anytihng all day long.

there's a BIG price difference between stuff like 996Ts and 997GT3s tho so cant really put them in the same category

But like Rwd Will i think until i have owned a Ferrari l will never be fully happy, as much as l think a Porsche will be a far better day to day car regardless of spec

Hmm maybe just talking about a spare Ł40k to blow on a car is a little vulgar in the current economic climate, with redundancies, negative equity etc

Possibly so, but vulgar is a strong word not everybody has to be hurting surely?

For me personally It would not be just a spare 40k.... I wish , but you are here for a good time, not a long time! No point sitting on your arse crying about the world around you, there are ALWAYS options to improve your lot in life

Don't get me wrong I do love cossies, but just getting a bit bored of broken cars and nothing ever being simple

Is an odd sort of price bracket, but if the cossies went, I would either want somthing batshit fast (GTR) or stunning looking with noise/driver involvement etc (360)....

Won't really get any Lambos for that sorta cash, not a massive porsche fan, but as said a 996 turbo might get a look in, Astons, just seem a bit old manish to me, and Lotus don't really fall into the supercar bracket IMHO... TVR maybe, but again we are into hassle to run and poor build quality etc etc. Add to the fact Cossie power spoils you, and anything under 400BHP just feels slow now , even 360's get wasted by a decent cossie, but I feel it might be worth the trade in speed for the whole package with the Ferrari.

In the Ferrari section, 360's seem to be the ones to go for with the benefit of a much newer car, and the build quality is a LOT better, supposed to be good for over 100k without trouble!

355's seem to be big trouble to run, lots of stories of rebuilds at 40k miles, exhaust manifolds cracking etc, and general servicing seems to be expensive. Also consider they are an old car now, around the same sort of age as an Escort cossie ...

550/575 are nice, but seem to be more GT than an out and out sports car, and again 40k is the very very bottom of the price bracket, if at all.

I dunno, the two choices I have picked are the 2 cars I would get rid of my cossies for (I think ), but there is just not a lot out there that interests me .. The wildcard is the M5 (E39 if I get rid of one cossie, E60 if I get rid of both).

But again, as soon as I get the Cossies running properly agian, no doubt I will fall in love with them again and ignore thier glaring faults

Ferrari hands down.

Look at it this way you pull up to pick a girl up in the Ultima and she'll be like "what the fuck?" pull up in the Ferrari and she'll slide straight down the path to the car and you know you'll get a shag at the end of the night

But maybe he is capable of getting laid without needing a car, and so just wants a car to enjoy driving it?

I don't think the Mrs would be too impressed if I went shagging ... Incidently my mrs hates the 360 for some reason ... It is bizzare, Ferrari seems to split opinion right down the middle between love them and hate them?

I wonder how much is jelousy/envy? i didn't use to think Ferraris were anything special, but having grown up a bit being the fastest thing on the road makes no odds anymore, and the complete package is more important ... But in the same breath you just can't beat the raw speed of somthing like a big power Cossie or the Ultima

Just don't really like them that much Chip... Sure the 996 turbos are great cars, but don't really do it for me, so no point in buying a car you don't really like is there?

I'm with you all the way on a 911.

Quick Reply: So...if you had 40k for a car, which one of these would you pick?
