Default GT3076 from CHINA!! Any horror stories?

Just been looking at the cheap replicas on ebay, now i know everyone will say there shit etc (especially garrett supliers) but has anyone actually put one to the test? do they explode at 10 psi? melt down the block dribbling onto the floor? or are they good value for money?

Very intersted in hearing your views and experiences, im getting shut of the gt2860r from my pulsar as i am wanting a bigger turbo, im seriously considering buying one for £300! posted to my door.

This one.

The only issues I have heard on with the more modern copies, is that they arent properly balanced, so you'll fit it up and it will work well, it just wont last.

Ive no first hand experience of them though, as for the sake of the cost of half a dozen tanks of fuel less id sooner just not drive the car for a couple of months and then put a garrett on if I was stuck for cash.

Bear in mind that when a turbo fails the bits of it can end up sucked through your engine.

He said Pulsar Chip.

Does it have a roller bearing core? It doesn't actually say?

The Turbo is a very significant component in the engine and how good it is could govern the outcome of the whole engine. What I am saying is, use a turbo according to how you value your engine, because if it shits itself, it will more than likely take the whole engine with it.

There have been stories (fully documented) of these types of cheap turbo's having compressor covers that are made from 2 cast 'halves' glued together etc.

I suppose its a bit like running your engine on £5 oil. It will work, but for how long?

I did have a cosworth mate, infact i have had a few but after owning the little rice rocket i will never buy cosworth again.

For the sake of £300 i want to have a good look at one, see how good they are (or bad)

Its not the roller bearing version, thats £500, i may as well buy a garrett if spending that much.

I have a roller bearing garrett on now but its sooooo small.

Yes, but £300 will be the least of your worries if the blades come apart and end up in the engine, which they easily could.

If I had the time to look, the story I referred to above is fully documented on the Internet with pics. Also, there are some proper Ebay warnings somewhere too.

its a tough one this,i guess china will always have the cheap and nasty tag as japan once did,but look how they ended up,still give them time.......
as for your turbo,as mentioned above it could be a risk you might not want to take on as you could import a garrett turbo fairly reasonably......or you could once
but when the chinese do something in my experience they buy the best and latest equepment and then headhunt the best people to get it all up and running.....then sack em..........

The "glued together" thing was many years ago, and I doubt it applies to cheap turbos now, which have clearly come on a long way since then.

Even if this turbo "works" I bet they cant supply you a compressor map, for you to decide if it works on your engine well or not, the fact they copied a garrett model number doesnt mean the turbo will perform the same, especially when minus the roller bearing core!

Personally, if I wanted a 3076, I would be paying a grand for a garrett one, not 300 quid for a copied non roller one, but its your money at the end of the day.

If you do buy it, let us know how it works initially, and let us know how long it takes to fail, and what damage if any that causes.

jdm turbos are ok not had one fail .my mates running a t3/4 wet bearing on hes cossy
and made 426 bhp at 28 psi on it [i did put a 360 bearing in there and rebalanced it]
been onthere for around 2 year's may be more

try it mate you may have a result ,also people say about failing what about when a garret fail when there thrust or bearing's fail

the only thing is turbine material may not be as good quality as garret
