Help with my car running hot all the time and fans kicking in ???
bought a new car the otherday and before you say it , my bird will use it more than me lol .
its a Saab 9-3 se turbo convertible on a W reg . lovely car .
but the thing that is now bothering me is that i drove it home on a cool nite and got home and could hear the cooloing fan on ? the temp was on half and didnt go above but i just thought it was weird how the fan had to come on ?
then i used it at the weekend , the car gets up to half way within 5-8 mins i guess but then the fan licks in . the temp doesnt go above half . but then as im driving and using the car , the fan comes on every couple of minutes ?
my bird went out a couple of time yesturday to drop off kids etc and evreytime she came back the fan was on ?
now my mate says im worring about nothing cos the temp dont go over half, its not over heating and the fan kicks in ?
but surely it cant have come out the factory like that with the fan kicking in every 5 mins ?
any one have any ideas ????
and yes , im a novice when it comes to fixing cars etc so if its obvious whats wrong please tell me lol

Testing the future
as tabs, i suspect the a/c is on. why do you say it's off? can you see the clutch of the compressor to see if the centre part is turning?
reason being, the cooling fan for engine is probably ecu controlled using the same sensor that the temp. gauge uses

The refference to clutch is the AIR CON COMPRESSOR, this when air con is OFF freewheels, ie the outer part of the pulley revolves with the belt but does not move the centre part of the pulley which is connected by a shaft to the pump inside.
You can readily see if the outside pulley is rotating around the centre or if it is locked/engaged, it is a electrical clutch that effectively joins the centre and outer bits together so turning the pump.
So with engine running if you can see the pump see if the centre is turning when air con is off, it shoudln't be.
