in the wrestling industry chip, the story lines follow real life events and friendships and rivalries so there is a lot of cross over
for example, the storyline was that test was about to marry stephanie (they were dating) until hhh decided to get into the act
and then steph and hhh were dating in real life, which led to them getting married and having sprogs, which is now worked into the storyline to main event mania
but i'm sure i'll be able to explain things

but even then people were still trying to put something between them, after rock cracked mick over the head with a chair several times too often in a match people started the romour that mick was pissed off because rock did it in front of his (micks) wife and kids, even though this was part of the pre match routine and everyone agreed that it would work the best
so you see, even the best laid plans get people who wish to ruin them and the lines between "real" and "story" get very blurred indeed

there is a very simple explanation for this
there are a lot of wrestlers who, for some reason or another, work "stiff" which is where they don't pull their punches, they connect with most of their blows, they don't give a shit about the other guy who they are working with in the ring, bob holly (recently let go after 15 years with the wwf) and the team of bradshaw and faarooq were the peole that you had to wrestle when you'd been a naughty boy and vince wanted to make absolutly clear that you wern't to fuck about
a legalised form of giving you a shoeing if you like, but not as simple as a firing, it was designed to make everyone else backstage aware that you'd fucked up and were being punished for it
in the same way that you get people who can have a ruck and are "hard" and peole who can kick the shit out of you because they've got bendy legs
these are legitimate methods to keep people in line
then yu have accidental injuries inflicted by one guy on another, very famous ones being big show smashed open with a steel chair and knocked sparko, hhh going for a pedegree on kurt and the table collapsing giving kurt a consussion (he still finished the match) owen hart nearly breaking stone cold steve austins neck with a piledriver gone wrong, undertaker throwing mankind off the top of the steel cage and into an announce table (dislocating a shoulder, breaking a few ribs amongst other things) and kurt angle doing a moonsault and breaking bob hollys arm (all easily found by looking on youtube)
these are accepted risks and injuries that happen when thngs go wrong
bret's carrer was ended when bill goldberg kicked him in the head and gave him a concussion, he was medically unfit to wrestle again and has recently recovered from a stroke he had while riding his bike
bill goldberg lacked talent, and vast quantities of it, in the same way that if a telentless footballer ended the carrer of a world renowned footballer beause he's jumped in with a 2 footed challenge, wrestling is a 2 man operation, the guys taking the bumps need to be able to bump properly, and the guys who are administering the bumps, should be able to bump the other guy convincingly but without injuring them
it's a very very complex arrangement of things that is designed to give the viewer the thrill of osmething happening, but the players are always safe at all times ebcause they have the skills to work together well
and possibly not easily explanable over the internet

I think wrestling is ok. I will watch it if its on at my mates.
My take on it is this. I see it like Eastenders, with loads of characters in. Each person has there own little story line. When it comes to argument time, they have a fight in the ring, instead of arguing like they would in Eastenders.
You have to admire the ability of those guys as athletes.

some guys work "stiff" and you get "bumped" for real (hardcore holly, apa, etc) and these are punishement matches to humiliate you for doing something that displeases the boss
then you have genuine accidents (kurt angles moonsault breaking bob hollys arm, tables collapsing before they are supposed to)
then you have rookie mistakes (owen hart on austin, causing his neck problems)
then you have guys who don't have talent who continually fuck up (mark henry fucking up batista's arm, bill goldberg ending bret harts career)
but you would still need to read the first post to understand what this post was about
and i could go on and on and on
do you know the difference between a "push" and a "demotion" and a jobber"?
they may all have the same ammount of screen time but one is going up, one is going down and one is just there to make up the numbers
but why do you get a "push" or a "demotion" or stay as a "jobber"?
simple, vince's word is god, ultimatly he looks at every single angle and then decides which direction the charachter should go
which means shite wrestlers often get a "push" because it's good for business, even though they leave a string of injuries in their wake, but just as a demotion can do well because if you stick it out you can gain some respect from vince who wil give you a "push"
but you can start off being a "jobber", get recognised and recive a "push" then get a "demotional push" before getting another "push" (follow hhh's rise and fall and rise from grace over the past 10 years to see what i'm on about) and it's all starting to get rather complicated now isn't it
hhh started off as a jobber
then got a small push as hunter hurst helmsley
then got a bigger push via shawn michaels as a member of dx
then got demoted for breaking kayfabe
then got another push
then married stephanie
and is now a possible heir to the mcmahon billions due to him having delivered 2 grandkids for vince to get all misty eyed about
i could go on but this has translated into hhh being able to "book" himself into a number of high profile angles at the expense of better wrestlers who have failed to break through the glass cealing that is wwf productions
john cena was a jobber, who started off as a vanilla ice parody, now he's a mega star and one of the top 10 wrestlers in the wwf earning millions
same with the rock
same with shawn michaels
the guys who had it handed to them on a plate were hulk hogan and bill goldberg of recent times, although michael macool is now bionking the undertaker mark calloway and so she has become womens champion because even vince knows that mark is THE backstage man to go to to solve ANY issues ANYONE has in the wwf, this is known as "stroke"
so, you see, it can be much more complicated, or not much easier to explain

rich, it doesn't matter if you like it or hate it or couldn't be bothered by it, that's for you to decide
like everything in life, if someones willing to explain it, i'm willing to learn, if only for the fact that i may be bale to use it in some useless conversation on the internet
