Registered on Thursday 18th June using a brand new shell. The plate doesn't come up on the DVLA Tax disc checker site yet.

DVLA issued a VIN for the car, and I used a 1991 donor car for all the mechanical bits, and passed an SVA test. The car is registered as new in 2009, no former keepers, and no MOT due till 2012.

I'll confirm all this when I get the log book, probably in a few weeks, and whether there is any endorsement about the amateur-built status, easier emissions standards, etc.

And there's no more pics till I get the right front bumper painted and fitted, mesh in the grill, mirror covers and tail spoiler fitted.

Default Cars built from a new shell

My car has now appeared on the DVLA tax checking site and shows as manufactured in 1991, and first registered in 2009.

I'll let you know whether the log-book has any endorsement about being amateur built etc when i get it through.

The bumper is a bog standard Mk1 XR4x4 item that was supposed to be all black, but the painter forgot to do the top pad!!!! It's coming off soon for a three-door bumper to go on as soon as it has been painted, along with the mirror covers, rear spoiler, and grill mesh. No more pics till they are on the car - it looks kind of naked without them.

There are a few other things still to be finished but they can wait till I take the car off the road in the autumn - for now, I'm just going to play with it for the summer.

Nearly all the mechanical bits are from a 1991 XR4x4 so it is the 2.9 V6 engine.
The suspension is new Koni adjustables with Chassis Dynamics -25mm springs.
Brakes are Cosworth 4x4 all round, including the ABS system.
Wheels are diamond cut three-door alloys with 25mm spacers to fill out the arches a bit more.
The new shell is an original XR4i, so has the twin side windows and the biplane spoiler with a three-door bodykit, bonnet and grill.

It’s certainly not the fastest car on here or the best handling but I don't really care – I built it myself, it sounds great, and it turns heads - even if most folk don't actually know that the J plate is way late for a Mk1!!!

Log book arrived, showing manufactured 1991 and first registered 2009 with no former keepers.

The front page, where it usually says new at first registration, has an endorsement that says
"1. Rebuilt - assembled from parts some or all of which were not new"

If i did it, I'd call them the Stavros edition (1 to 11) and have a nice cossie stlye stavros decal on the wing
I'd paint em all Crystal Blue.

it doesn't surprise me about cosworth stuff in italy as i have been there and was surprised how many Italians drive Fords and how many cosworths i saw.
You know your stuff fella.
