Will be interesting to see if they close the loop hole on engine age based emissions for kit cars with the new SVA.

From what i understand at present for amateur bought vehicles they expect photos etc to prove you built it to use the amateur built vehicle rules on emissions.

Cant see them continuing such a loophole when the green gay brigade seem fit to go skitz with car tax on emissions.

no need to spend 8k on a lhd motorsport shell when there are still a good few new RHD road shells in the UK, just keep an eye on ebay and you can pick one up for under 2k new

Good luck in finding the other 5000 odd parts you will need to build a new one from scratch though - been there, done that

The major components used need to be new or "reconditioned as new" bar one item.

The major components are:-

Engine.
Gearbox
Diff/drive shafts
Brakes ( which composes of calipers, master cylinder, discs, pads)
Suspension (which composes of arms, drop links, arb, struts, springs, bushes)
Steering (which composes of column, rack, rod ends)
Chassis

I'm sure all the above can be bought new or reconditioned as new. they don't care about things like interior (seats, dash, clocks, heating etc) or glazing or even bumpers/trim/exhaust.

Emmissions are based on the year of the engine block. If you get a new block you may have trouble. better to source a good old block and recondition it as new Over boring and crank grinds to the next under size are acceptable. There have been a few "factory" engines with reground cranks

No they haven't changed it for the IVA they still use the term Effective Date of vehicle when referring to emissions.

I think the price is fine, im sure there are plenty of LHD race cars out there, and if someone bins one they will just want an off the shelf new shell ready to start again, to them it will be worth the money, to someone building a road car it probably isnt.

you have to remember that what goes on down the british dvla does not go on down the motor vehicle depatment in some foreign countries..

there will be people building group a 3dr cosworths for motorsport in the future( remember thats what they made for rs.. rallye sport) and they won't care one bit about the dvla in the uk. i saw so many foreign drivers who drove 3dr's that when they go ok for historic motorsport Romain will do buisness with them.

it doesn't surprise me about cosworth stuff in italy as i have been there and was surprised how many Italians drive Fords and how many cosworths i saw.

It wouldnt ever be an RS500 obviously though, as you wouldnt have an RS500 chassis number for it.
Would it matter if the chassis number is stamped up or down? lol

What also helps is that the cars there just don't have any rust on them due to the nice weather they have in Italy. My brothers bought an ex Italian Sapphire and the chassis is just as new, not a single bit of rust on it.

So I guess the cars there just live longer

don't forget the wheelarches and innerwings+ suspension etc, mine were like brand new from italy in the right places which is very good news,it makes me laugh when loads of uk rhd sierra cosworths are shite condition and falling apart and the Italians have them totally solid.

as dodgy as it sound couldnt you just get a mate with a company just to make up invoices for every part? going by some concourse cars they come out looking better than factory so no questions would be asked?

Could also re-shell an exsisting car under those guidelines if you had the parts concerned:

In order to retain the original registration mark cars must use:
The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque);
or a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer or manufacturer (e.g. receipt).

And two other major components from the original vehicle - ie suspension (front & back); steering assembly; axles (both); transmission or engine.

If a second-hand chassis or monocoque bodyshell is used, the vehicle must pass an enhanced single vehicle approval (ESVA) or single vehicle approval (SVA) test after which a "Q" prefix registration number will be allocated.
Technically they are second-hand unused shells but if you could get a receipt then you can use the original reg and numbers under a re-shell.

Quick Reply: 11 new 3-door shells!!
