I'll ask my sis, she got married over there. I know they had a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon which was suprisingly cheap.

Cola and my favourite holiday destination!

we've done it both low budget and no expense spared! Grandcanyon can be seen lots of different ways - depending on how you see it depends how much it cost. first time we went we had a limo pic us up from hotel, take us to airport, champagne lunch in the canyon via helicopter - cost about £300 for both of us. You can go by horseback as well which is probably a good way to see more of it as with helicopter you just get to look from above - horse is a lot cheaper as well.

if you want any specific info pm me and i'll fill you in. SO much to do and see there its unreal. a lot of people only like going for 5 days or a week - if we could, we'd live out there lol

day to day budget depends on what and where you want to eat etc - if you're not fussed you could both live on about £100 for the week for food etc. alternatively, i paid that for a steak one night lol!

whatever you do though, you are guarnteed a wicked holiday!

costs as much as you want it to!

buffet dinners etc are about $12 eat as much as you want. you could survive easy on about $80 for 2 of you a day if your just sight seeing and wandering the casinos. ofc your going to drink and gamble so thats where the money starts going...

most tables are $10+ min bet. I done £60 in about 15mins on roulette. you can just play the slots anything from 2cent up over so thats the cheapest way to have fun.. if your on the 10cent + slots the drinks girls come round and you can get drinks for the price of a tip anything from bottles of bud to cocktails i was tiping like $3 a go for 2 drinks. (makes a cheap night)

where you staying?

one of the MUST see places in the world for me its unreal.. ive been 5 times its really really good.

if you stay at mandalay bay you will have a long walk to anything else on strip as it is at far end - MGM is more central to the action.

Mandalay bay is a stunning hotel though

I have been to Las Vegas 4 times and its the best Holiday I have ever been on. I will never set foot in another Spanish Holiday resort again as these are overpriced waste of money. I know you said a mate is sorting flights etc.. but look for yourself and compare prices. Book direct for your hotel and dont get shafted by Thompson or any other agencies. I guarantee unless your mate has a massive staff discount you can do a lot better than what Thompson will offer.

7 nights in the MGM can be had for approx $500 for the first week of August. Use this site http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/trav...25/?start=2080 to check all the latest Hotel deals, look for coupon codes for your hire car and book direct with the company. I got an SUV for £245 for two weeks for this year. I fly direct to Vegas with Virgin and it cost us £360pp and I would honestly recommend flying direct as opposed to a stop over.

As for your budget, it depends how much you will gamble and how good you are at it. Food as the others have said is very cheap and I would recommend the Buffets at Planet Hollywood, Rio and The Orleans.

If you are looking for cheap tickets for the shows there is an outlet called Tix4Tonite and they offer cheaper tickets for the shows. These are only for sale on the day of the show and cant be bough for another day etc..

I went last September and stopped at the Luxor.

It's not a place to go and scrimp if you ask me. Live it good and live it Large!

When I go back I would stay at either the Mandalay or Ceasers Palace this time. I went for 10 days with the missus and blew about £2k over and above the hotel and flights and that wasn't going truly overboard.

Awesome place and well worth boning up on exactly where to go before you get there, so you can plan the trip etc.

I went a couple of years ago and stayed at the Mirage, it is a truly amazing place - but expensive (even more so now with the exchange rate!) so budget accordingly.

A sunset helicopter flight into, a picnic in and flight out the Grand Canyon was a couple of hundred!

There is some stuff you can do for free - all the casinos try to outdo each other so you can watch the dancing fountains at the Bellagio, a 'volcano' erupting outside the Mirage etc. etc. and easily kill an evening or two that way.

Only other thing i noticed was that there's nowhere to eat except inside any of the hotels/casinos. Not even a McDonalds/Cafe/Coffee Shop to be seen!

I was there as part of my honeymoon, stayed for a week. Brilliant place, nowhere else likw it. Stayed in Ceasers Palace and it was fantastic, very central on the strip.

Went in October last year for 14 night fly drive - did 5 nights in LV. Total cost of my holiday was £1650 all in (misses spent more due to shopping ).

For that we also did : LA, six flags, san fran, Alcatraz, golden gate, Sedona, Phoenix, Hoover, Canyon (fly), skywalk, cirque d sol, titi show venice beach, beverly hills, some of the 66, Stratosphere rides, dolphins at the mirage and all the other bits that go with it etc etc etc

We ate well (for my style of food) - four different hard rocks, Planet H etc but the fly drive limits your drinking and it would have been very easy to spend a LOT more, even more so if it was a 'lads' holiday ...

Really enjoyed it

Interesting to see this thread as i'm about to book up Vegas this week for June time. Thomas Cook fooked up my booking to Turkey and decided to give us crap flights and they wont refund my deposit, so have to use some of the money with them . Anyhow I found it is cheaper to book the Luxor through Thomas Cook than booking it direct!!! Only by a couple of quid.

tonyk - How far in advance did you book your flight with Virgin as they are coming out really dear online. I want to go around 4th June for a week!!!

Cheers

I went for New year with the doris, and we spent about £2k on top of flights and accomodation.

We stayed at the MGM signature and it was really nice in there, went to the UFC, saw a Cirque du soleil show, ate very well nearly every night (i'd recommend olives at the Bellagio and top of the world restaurant at Stratosphere) Grand canyon trip by helicopter cost us £400 for both, that was a sunset trip that included coming back down the strip at sunset. I'd recommend buying a guide from a book shop, my Mrs did and she's been twice already and she found loads of new things in it and tips like how to get a room upgrade etc

i see alot of people have said they love it and i'll definately go back. The whole place was amazing.

Matt.

I stayed i the Mirage when i went - where the white tigers are!

Pete, you could honestly spend the whole week just wondering round all the different hotels as they all have their own 'thing' to attract people!

eg:

Mirage - Secret garden (bit like a zoo!)
MGM - Lion Enclosure
Bellagio - Aquarium

etc etc

Whatever you do, you'll have a fab time!

I booked on Jan 1st this year for June 27th- July 11th. As far as I know only Virgin Fly Direct to Vegas from the UK, Its a London Gatwick flight. I also noticed that its cheaper to go on June 4th and come back on june 12th as opposed to the standard 7 days.

As for the Luxor, Its $344 for 6 nights on June 4th. Also if you book direct with a hotel and the price gets lower or a better deal is advertised, they will match the price for you and you can also cancel your booking without penalty if you find a better deal elsewhere. Another point worth mentioning is, depending on how much you gamble, a hotel will possibly comp your stay- this is only possible if you book direct. I had this happen at the Orleans (4 nights) last year and im comped two free nights this year.

It depends when you are going and who the flights are with. £975 each is a hell of a lot of money to be honest. Using
the following dates it would cost £494pp to fly with Virgin (oct4th - Oct18) and $674-809 for the room depending on quality for the entire stay. So based on todays exchange rate, total cost as little as approx £1355 for two people for two weeks. Cirucs Circus is a hotel that is located at the north end of the strip and is mainly aimed at families with kids. It is not a fancy hotel and usually works out about $30 a night.

Find out if its a thomas cook charter plane or if its another company that they use as it will probably be cheaper to go direct to the company.

Their own airline.

To be honest i just wanted to go into a travel agent book it and go home, not my thing scouting round trying to save money and looking at loads of different stuff never take anything in and get frustated with it all lol. So no worries on saving on that front.

Glad it won't be a rowdy hotel full of drunks then, screaming kids instead haha.

Sounds intersting anyway.....Circus Circus Hotel Home to the world's largest permanent circus and America's largest indoor theme park, this hotel features top entertainment and classic rides for the whole family.

http://www.circuscircus.com/

Also the best steak house it says voted for 20 years. Sure we will have a cracking time anyway.

Next door to the MGM is Fat Burger, and there was a McD there too. I went in December, got diverted to LA becase of snow.. 17 hours no ciggy. Not fun. If i could i would live out there. got chattin to a valet guy and he told me it was a nightmare to get a job out there. sucks really. but anyways, its fantastic, you'll enjoy it no matter what!

If you can get direct first class flights to Las Vegas for £600pp get them booked now as the cheapest *for my dates I can see with BA is £10,000+ per person and at £600 you would be a mug not to.

how mads that Tony......i've got the e-mail in front of me saying "i've just been on BA's website and the propper price for the 2 tickets is £1589.40.....sorry i can't get it cheaper as i'd have to be on the plain with you".......

edited......i've just been on the BA site and it must be wrong.....it's my mothers friend and she came round with the e-mail printed off and said "ooh by the way she's bumped you up to first class aswell"........think maybe she means "premium ecconomy" from what i can see price wise.........bugger i thought i was going to get smashed free of charge.......lol

Has anyone stayed at NewYork NewYork hotel? Was tempted to split the time there and have 4 nights at the Luxor and 3 in NewYork NewYork??

Also found a flight on the 4th June for £293 all in with KLM (I used to use these when I worked in Amsterdam and are fine). It does have a stop in Minneapolis but only for a couple of hours though but worth it for the saving.

We went last year for 4 days. Flew in as part of our America trip and met my parents who flew over from the UK. We stayed at Ceasars Palace and the Venetian (extended our stay by 1 day and Ceasars wouldnt give the same rate).

There is a huge designer outlet about a 20 min taxi ride away and back then when the US and AUD $$ were near parity, i got a lot of items very cheaply. Don't bus it there, my parents did and in 40 degrees, wasnt pretty.

We drove to Kingman which I believe is the closest point for Route 66, went to a diner and had lunch. You cross the Hoover Dam to get there which was awesome. Grand Canyon is a fair drive to the closest point but the arch platform is an overnighter from Vegas or a very very long day and not much time at the platform.

Really nice place and amazing to see the pace of development. I have stacks of photos on the media center but the above ones give a good idea.
