Default re-locating battery and wiring, help please

i am moving my battery to the back of my car, the lives that go to the battery i will wire them to a junction box then from that to the battery, i'm sure i was told to run the live from the alternator direct to the battery rather than putting that in the junction box with all of the other lives, as it will give a better voltage, so their would be two lives running through the car, is that right? or can i just wire all of the lives to the box and have one live going to the battery?

also the earth, can i earth the engine to the chassis then just earth the battery to the chassis in the back of the car?

any advice, pic's, diagrams would be greatly appreciated

thanks in advance

i welded in a new battery try to the boot and painted it, and then as you said ran a suitable live up to the front to a junction box where it met all the other lives, gave the original earth a new home on the body makein sure it a good mount! fused the live close to the battery and the earth runs round the rear of battery with a normal battery clamp, and sits on a socket i welded to the boot floor just like a battery pole. (sorry cant find a pic of that bit)

ive had no issues with mine. if you really wanna do summot with it tho, run the wire to the boot as said and uprate the other +ive cables. ie alternator to starter to junction box. as long as all connections are good and proper you should have a good set up.

and i have totally forgot what fuse i used, but i have got a new fuse to put in the rear, well its a trip switch really to save poppin fuses it just trips out. (just checkin my ebay to see what rating it was)

edit:

this is the kinda thing i ment, not fitted yet

That's rubbish about running aalternator wire right to the battery, just take it to the starter feed, will be fine, and save wire.

Demon Tweeks sell a Bulkhead insulated Terminal that gives you a Battery + at the front of the car the altenator/Starter leads can go to this, The lead to the Battery is on the other side of the Bulkhead.

As long as the the live wire you run from the new battery position to the old lives is a decent guage , ie 1/o (some people call it zero guage) you will be fine . power/voltage loss is only dependant on the size of the cable and in a short run (length of a car) you shouldnt loose even .1 of a volt .
to give you some idea the old e30 bmw's used 4 guage cable to the rear battery tray and the later large engined 5 series all use 1/o guage .
also as long as you have a decent connection to the original wires in the front (a car audio distribution block will be fine) you wont have any problems at all .
as for which fuse to use i would recomend a minimum 150amp maxi fuse as the only time its likely to short out is in the case of a side impact accident and the new live running down the car gets trapped or split and shorts .

Volt drop is dependant on a hell of a lot more than just gauge size, wire type temperature, length of run all come into it.
