im on £9 an hour for technician (glorified mechanic lol) mot tester and i fabricate custom stainless exhausts as well as doing all the welding plus bits of body repairs and spraying its shit really i only stay because i have my own workshop next door and my boss hates taking on what we call long stay jobs eg// clutches headgaskets etc... so gives them to me to do in my own time which allows me to earn an extra £500-700 a week (more than i earn in my job lol) this is the only reason i stay as without those kickbacks i would not be able to live as i do and would have to try and find a better payed job which at the moment is very difficult

I would have thought possibly small local independent dealerships and garages would be suffering now as people are giving up cars more because of the fuel costs and probably can't afford to keep them running as much and increasing overheads from inflation. But I am surprised a main dealerships isn't paying a semi respectable wage.

get out of mecanics and go in to bodyshop. Im a body fitter which is just like a mecanic but in a bodyshop, removing engine's,trim. Replacing bent suspention and racks ect. Im on £13 hour plus £13 bonus and we complain as some companys in the area are paying £14 to £16 per hour but to get these rates u do realy need a ATA test but most company's will put you on this as they need to comply with PAS125 to get work of some insurers. See people may not be paying out to get there car serviced but there's always fools that crash.

It's £10-13ph up here - a couple of the better dealers are paying £17-18ph for Testers to do permanent backshift plus bonus.
I guess it's a bit different up here as the motor industry has to compete with the Oil industry. A lot of my pals are in both industries and they've not been short of work.
It's a fair trek from Durham tho.........

Na i work oppersite at daf but about 8 years ago i worked at autoglass and they had such a bad rep lol changed name so many times now was a jag place then norwich union now solus i went in there to do are fleet mechanics land rover discovery we did are pre check and were marks all over it where it had just been painted and it was around the windscreen appeture area tryed to get them to sign it and they tryed saying it was us lol had a massive argument with the tall twat with the slick hair whos still there and he banned us from the workshop lol so the guy who owns it went down there and found so many bits on it he got it re painted before he even got it back he also found one of the bull bar bolts had been snapped off and a large zip tie round it buy that bolt hole lol. My bro still works for autoglass and he says it still makes him laugth when there not aloud in there so autoglass just ring the insurance company and then later on that day they have made room for them to come in lol

i live in dorset as an mot tester/mechanic and after tax i take home £286 per week. though i have some private work but so tired after doing that in the evenings i struggle to do my day job. the main dealers round here tend to pay less than the independants. there is no work going down here though so i am lucky to have a job where so many of my mates have been made redundant

didnt realise it was that much, depends on my bonus tho as iv just had a pay rise,£19500 but if i work mega hard each month can earn up 2 £20000 or more.i get 40p for every tyre or exhaust part i fit,and £4 for a tracking.
