Default Peoples opinions Of Twin Turbo Manual Supras.

I obviosly Know an escort cosworth is so much better and believe me i would prefer one but Ive been on the supra forum this afternoon as ive been offered a supra in part x for the X5.

Im not getting much sense over there and alsways seem to get a good honest answer over here.

Ive never had a supra before but have had a whole host of other japanese motors. The car wont be a daily drive and will probably be limited to the weekend blasts.

Basic spec list goes like this.

Its a TT With a big single. Obviosly a manual

widearch veilside kit
veilside full titanium exhaust
light-wieght front wings
fibreglass bonnet and have a carbon fiber bonnet as well just not fitted yet.
veilside 18" wheels 235-35-18" front 265-35-18" rear.

hks gold v-pro ecu
hks-264in-264ex cam's
hks gt-pro single turbo kit
hks manifold
hks induction kit
hks-fmic
sard 800cc injectors
sard fuel pressure/reg
2x-walbro fuel pumps
aem wideband afr/02
defi lynk water temp/boost

jic coilovers.

geerbox/clutch
6speed getrag
excedy hyper twin plate clutch

recaro milenium seats in red and black

As said, ive never had a supra before and its also my most disliked colour which is red. He claims that its 500bhp+ is this likely.

Whats the sensation of speed like, the way the peeps talk on the supra forum it should go like shit off a shovel. Whats reliability like.

As much information as possible please guys these still seem to hopd a rediculous amount of money considering they are really old cars now.

The deal will be done tommorow if im up for it so i have not got much time lol.

Thanks guys

Rob

Its that sort of info i need.

What made it boring mate? what do you mean by cossies spoil you? do you mean power wise. This car is dynod at 496hp at the wheels apparently is that realistic.

He has printout but i have not seen it yet.

It runs 1.6 Bar he reckons it wheelspins in 4th.

I really like supra's but i reckon you'd need a 7-800hp to make it interesting.
6 speed manual TT are the more sought after ones.

A few supra's over in the U S of A are manking 900hp on standard internals, they must be pretty tough motors.

A freind of mine has one that ive been in on a few occasions his is around 450hp and to me it seems very quick especially once its on the move we raced a 900 ninja down the motorway and completly minced it seeing 170 plus on his sat nav very quickly ! i really like them and have been told the engines are pretty strong......Only down side i could see is the fuel consumption its a tad on the thirsty side even when driven sensibly...

May have been boring cos it was auto but there just too smoothe power deivery no real kick up the arse wag its tail abit and then fuck off up the road like a saff or 3dr would. More like your nan could drive it fast. Cossies are just good fun give good driver feedback and the parts are everywhere. Just my opinion obviosly.
As for it it could be that power i have no idea mate. Would be quick tho i'd have thought but..... still reckon a 2wd stg3 saff would be more fun.

thing is this is more like 500 brake with 800 cc inj thats gonna make it even more thirstier.

Its got a hks pro gt3037 a lot of people seem to really rate the power delivery of these turbos.

Ive also heard these are nearly bulletproof and when serviced properly just dont break.

just want to get as many different opinions as poss.

The wing is rediculously big though isnt it lol. GTRs are so much better looking.

Any Other info or opinions?

We had a TT auto Supra with BPU, just under 400BHP, very reliable, very quick, (178mph sat nav) standard traction control is very dangerous though in the wet or dry, bin it and get Race Logic one. No room at all for the back seats.

Over than that there good imo.

Ive never driven one, but i almost bought a UK TT auto, totally standard, 321bhp. Awesome cars, even in standard form. I actually prefer auto's in cars like these though. As said, very smooth power delivery, and even more so with auto's. As they are so comfy and smooth compared to cossie's, it will always 'feel' slower when there not, but look down at the speedo after giving it some and it will suprise you.

Yeah, because a 400/500/600bhp one's gona be pants

The engines are very good and I certainly wouldn't describe an Escort cosworth as 'obviously being a lot better'

Had a chance to drive a few of these back in the days, loads of fun... standard brakes are amazing especially for a car this heavy. Ones I've driven ranged in power from 450 to 725hp ATW (single turbo conversion) dyno proven ... They are a lot of fun, totally bullet proof and respond well to modifications, intercooler, exhaust and inlet manifold, electronics etc.

I always wanted one but after spending 20mins in the rear seat (sitting sideways), it's clear this is a two seater and I would like to have a little more room.

A friend of mine raced these for a while... here is one of his runs at the track near me.

Mark is it something you can look at map etc?

Im getting tempted to go for it ive got to be honest the handling does worry me a little though as im more of a 4x4 driver.

Will definately be the fastest Rwd car ive ever driven.

its got a hks gold v-pro ecu do you map that or need to change it?

Would be nice to get it to its optimum on the turbo it has if 1.6 bar isnt its optimum already?

Does any one know what the hks pro gt3037 and what turbo it is in stupid person terms.

What max power would that turbo make does anyone know.

Thanks as always Mark.

The hks pro ecu can only be mapped by one of the appoved writers,
is it on twin 3037.

The 3037s we see on the evo's are good for about 500hp you would need to know the spec of the supra one before knowing the hp,
I have mapped a few ranging from 600hp to 1000hp.

So i could definately get good power out of it without the added cost of having to go bigger with the turbo.

Thanks mark excellent info, makes me want to go for it even more now.

What would limit this car with the spec ive put in from going from the 500hp to the next level if the internals can take 800hp+ in standard form.

These supra engines seem a little bit to good to be true dont they?

I mapped a stock one that made 600hp on a stock engine with a GT35.

Jesus well i need to get it over to you for mapping then if i get it tommorow.

Is a gt35 not bigger than a hks pro gt3037 i thought i read that the gt3037 is based on a gt30?.

sorry if that sounds dumb.

Yes it based on the GT30 so smaller than the GT35,
Watch the speedo as it wont feel fast, these things pull big topspeeds.
