Are replicas frowned upon or ,if done right a great way to own a nice, fast looking car for a fraction of the price.?
Iv'e seen a few nice escort cosworth replica,s .
After selling my rs and recently having 2 kids ,we make do with my escort van for work and a focus 1.6 ghia for the missus. But the modding bug has hit me and i,ve started to turn it into a FOCUS ST170 replica.

If you like the ST170 look then why not?
Just don't stick ST170 badges on it if it's not an ST170, lol
If you just like the look of it then I don't see why anyone else needs to be worried

i dont care much either way - my GLX in essence will be a replica, however there will be more cosworth parts than GLX parts on it, and whilst i may put the cosworth badge on it (It is after all powered by cosworth), however it will never(famous last words) have RS badges on it
Nothing wrong with replicas if done properly. Theres a huge difference between a 'replica' and a 'look-a-like' though.
I can see why people do it for insurance purposes or maybe lower running costs etc, but sometimes it can get a bit pointless if you end up spending silly amounts on it with a big engine and everything. When it gets to that stage it would be better and cheaper to get the real thing.
Ive heard of people spending over £10k on escos reps (one i know even £13k!) when they could have the real thing for similar money.

I dont see the point in "all show, no go" replicas unless your really young and insurance an issue.
And as S1 says, i really dont get why people spend so much on a look a like.
I do detest cars with "cosworth" etc badges when they dont have cossie power or the RS spec to go with them.

I ws thinking about doing a ST170 rep too cause my mrs wants a focus next but she might have to do more miles to and from her work .She said to me that she doesnt wanna get an ST170 with low miles just to put loads of miles on it.
