Unhappy Are things getting worse...?

Close friend of mine his company is just about to lay of all 22 employees and shut. Been established over 25 years. Suddenly makes you realise how bad things are when someone you know is going under

only in the last couple of weeks have things started to happen where i work. I currently contract for Hilton International Operations Centre and we currently have roughly 600 employees at this office. within the next month that is due to fall by at least half! so over 300jobs to be lost here! most of which are Directors, VP's or SVPs. All the big jobs have been transferred to the states and we will effectivly just be skeleton staff here within the next couple of months.

We have a fish man who comes round once a week, today was the last time. They've all been laid off.

Yeah I know, sounds fishy.

A lot of our clients are feeling the pinch at the moment, but it all seems to be in the same areas like building, retail and servicing type jobs. I feel for the folk who have mortagages etc who are trying to survive on jobseekers.

I have 22 people working in our factory, luckily we are busy but i would hate to have to decide who was going and who was staying. Like you say everyone has bills to pay. Its not even like there are places or jobs to go and fill.

I don't necessarily think it's got worse, I think some people have run out of places to go - and more importantly cash. What has happened with the economy was going to happen - period - it's just a case how long some some businesses can carry on for. If you've got a good client base and keep on top of arrears / bad debts then you'll pull through.

we factor all of our clients so again its just keeping on top of payments etc. You only need a few people to take you for a few grand each and your soon paying your staff to work for free. We have started to do a different range of work now so i think it also help being able to diversify and satisfy customers needs.

and that's how you'll survive - by being a 'one stop shop' for your customer base and maintaining cashflow. NOTHING is more important.

PS - know I've asked before but lost the PM - what rims did you used to have on your S1 ? Ta

Jase I was made redundant in December and am really struggling to find another job, sooo many people going for the few jobs out there and most are willing to 'drop' at least one level just to find work

I haven't had my car out of the garage since 07
I was doing concours that year too so didn't really see much of the local group, did you know they are no longer part of the main club, they had to leave for not going to the AGM or some such
I considered a 500 a few years back but I have invested so much time and effort into my car now (currently doing an underfloor resto) that I couldn't bear to sell it !
Would be good if you got another 500
