No age limit i have a 36yr old apprentice. Only thing is you dont get the funding over 25yrs of age, but this only effects your employeer.

Wrong

yes you do

there is 16-18 fully funded by the government and anything else above is funded at a 19+ rate ( which assumes 42% employer contribution )

In the electical industry the older people tend to go in as an electrical improver or something, and work and do a night class once a week. Where as the younger lads just get an aprenticeship and do either day or block reliese. I think the age limit is capped in the electrical industry but not 100%

Just checked JTL say you need to be between the age of 16 to 24 to do 1 of there apprenticeships

some traaining companies wont ask for the employer contribution anyway for 19+ learners so dont worry about a current or potential employer having to fork out

No age limit in the funding guidance, any age limits will be discretionary ones set by providers and employers

Apprentices with companies going bust up to 6 months ago can be funded to finish their apprenticeship in a college if at all possible, ie if it doesnt require stuff like motor mechanics etc

We also have just bid on a pot of funding thats available to get freshly made redundant people back to work, or improve their skillset to make them more employable. £1500 for 8 weeks with us!

However, fuck knows where we're supposed to be getting them jobs

The Jobcentres are reporting 75% increase in intake and are opening over the weekends to keep up, they cant refer people onto provisions quick enough.

It's not a pretty picture at present

Cheers for the replies, especially Mondeo Man. This was the area i was getting confused about, i wasnt sure if employers would be put of with the fact that they would have to contribute more in my case. I live in Peterborough and im looking at the Mechanic course, although i was also thinking about Electrician or Plumber as back up options. I have looked at all the car manufacturer websites and it looks like they have their own in house training courses, i have registered my details with them but im sure there is a huge waiting list and i really want to get started this summer so im looking at college. If anyone knows any garages in or around Peterborough where i can try to get a placement i would really appreciate the info.

Thanks Mat

I'm not arguing, the government fund apprenticeships up to any age.

At 16-18 they are fully funded

19+ to 50+ they are co-funded so the employer makes up the difference to the fully funded rate to the training company/college delivering the training, however lots of training companies/Colleges dont ask for the co-funding from the employer

For eligibility Criteria try looking in here in the ER Manual
