so he paid all that money for a car he had only viewed in pictures sent to him, some people are far too trusting,
personally if i was spending that much money on a car i would like to physically see the car and drive it.

WTF!! I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE ARE STILL IDIOTS THAT FALL FOR THIS!!

"I had payed the full amount to have the car shipped to me and then made aware today that its a scam and its just randoms pics of a car."

I would also like to see how cheap the car was? too cheap perhaps??

It is almost laughable imo that someone would pay for a car in full without viewing it. Especially one where the owners had moved abroad and taken the car with the number of scams that use this ploy.

There is always one (or four in this case lol!!) out there that make these scams going.

to add, he did a hpi check - where did it come back to on the address iirc you have to confirm where they live and the chassis number.

iirc you can confirm

reg
chassis number
date or first reg
number of owners
owners name and address
date they bought it

surely the scammer didn't have all that info?

You have to wonder just how some people manage to survive on a day to day basis with that kind of stupidity fogging they're brains.

Rab, makes you wonder!!

I can appreciate getting stitched up on an an item for a couple of hundred, but he must have been talking ALOT of money.

Thing is usually these scams are done by advertsing the car VERY cheap, so greed must play a large part

It's a lassie from up this way that 'bought' it.

She paid market price for it really - so she'll be down over Ł20k! A massive lesson to be learned from this. Still can't believe she would've bought a car for that sum without ever seeing it!

The story was fairly common for up here - a lot of high end motors are sold on behalf of people as the owner works abroad due to the Oil. I guess that's one reason why she was more comfortable with doing the deal.

Yes, it was a car for sale recently that had already been sold, dont want to disclose as that car has a new owner. The scammer used the pics on the original advert.

Shocking! But even more shocking that someone can even consider it as genuine.

As much as i feel sorry for the guy, as long as there are mugs like this around then the scammers are staying put and earning obsene amounts of money from it.

Why in gods name would anyone pay in full for a car they have never seen/driven and then just wait for it to turn up? Hes been well and truely had, and its his own stupid fault!! Id only be willing to do similar with a main dealer, and even then, only with a brand new car. What kind of money would he have handed over, circa 15k??

Is this really, honestly NOT a wind up.

Unfortunately most scams are based around human greed. People get hooked as they think they are getting a bargain. As the old saying goes 'If it seems to good to be true, it probably is'.

Bloody expensive lesson to learn

She's generally pretty clued up when it comes to motors. She's had some decent motors when they were reasonably new so it's not the first time she would've spent ŁŁŁŁ's on a car. As said above, this car was advertised at circa Ł25k.

Her last car was a freshly imported EP3 Type R in Champ White iirc. That would've been bought without seeing it in the flesh possibly.

She also had a Mk4 R32 when they were fairly new so that would've cost a fair bit too.

Obviously it's very silly looking back at it but I'm sure there's been less elaborate scams that have caught people.

Personally, I'm the same as you guys. I'd never put ANY money down on a car without seeing it - even if that meant possibly losing the car.

I sold a car through ebay for 11K without the buyer viewing it. I didn't even receive a phone call about it prior to auction completion.

I didn't scam him either!
