ok before i start i know all rattle paints are shite but cant justfy all the stuff id need to get in order to use 2k clearcoat.
bascically im spraying a small piece of material 20mm wide by 80mm long with halfords rattle clear coat,
i put a decent amount on it but it always dries with little dimples in it, prob say 20 dimples in it and it looks cack, question is whys it doing it ?
when i spray the paint on theres no dimples there because i spray a good generous coat on it,
second bit is how can i get the dimples out ? sand back with say 1200 grit wet and dry ? only thing then tho is the nice shine has gone from the piece ?
has anyone tried upol clear #1 ? its supposed to be a 1k clearcoat giving results kinda like a 2k clearcoat ?
any help at all will be greatfully appreciated lol

you dont spray generous coats on . you spray thin layers of fine mist.thatll be why its dimpling.
ive got a paint finish as good as the factory panels next to it using main dealer cans off rattle spray.

You can flat the dimples out once the clear coats dry with 1500 wet & dry. Then polish with a product called finness.Just don,t put any cleaning cemicals on it for a while as it eats into the clear coat.

make sure your spraying it as directed on the can ie leaving correct time between coats and not to much.
Also, spraying in the right temp and the part is at the correct temp.Should be able to get a pretty decent finish. If flatting off, you may need to really work at bringing the shine back up.
This was a rocker cover I did in rattle cans before I cut it back with polish

can G3 be used by hand or is it machine only ?
stupid question but would a dremel with a polishing mop on it work ?
and how do i stop it from doing it in the first place ?
is the consensus that im spraying it all wrong ? i should do like fuzzy says and fine mist it on ?

When i do it I lay down a good coat, but not enough that it would run then give it 10 minutes before another coat, 2-3 coats.
Warm condition - room tempurate, i did find that if i got a reasonable heavy few coats down it dimpled less ?? but not heavy in as blasting it, more moving the spray flow across side to side a good few times in light bursts to build up a decent amount of coverage.
Just a bit of trial en error to get the feel for it I guess, see what is working best for you.
Seem to need a good few days to fully harden, I left it a week before doing any polishing.

if the coats your doing are dimpling theyre to heavy .if the light mist looks to thin then you need to aim for something inbetween the two. several coats lightly are better than 2 or 3 heavy.

Try heating up the can with a heat gun/hair dryer before use.
Light even coats .I work in a bodyshop and you get a lot of shit in 2k clear coats.
We just flat it and polish.Have seen heavy runs vanish with a good flat & polish.
G3 is quite abrasive, try a softer polish like finnesse

ive noticed spraying too thinly with rattle cans it tends to go rough and misty, ive found get it thick enough to look wet, but not thick enough to get runs if that makes sense?

It,s called 3M FINNESSE -IT POLISH.
It's just a finishing polish usually for removing swirl and flatting marks.I'm sure you can get something simalar as long as it,s the right compound.

yeh sorry ive had my head my arse ! ment to reply but forgot
so firstly yoiu have to make sure it is extremely clean and either use 1k upol but it wobt shine with a high gloss so 2k is ur best thing . i have used celluose but you nedd to heat the item and in a warm place but it doseht bond properly !
gelcoat was ur pm well thats a twat to
basicly when wet laying a brushed coat is to thick and will leave a milky appearence and air in the product, spray gel looks brilliant shiney ect but it will have patches of air that look a litlle liike crazing
so stick with a clear laquer dude for vest results
