Default Shocking gas bill!

Just got my "revised" energy bills in - got the normal "estimated" bill at the beginning of the month, so as normal went online and put in the actual meter readings, and I've gone from being £65 in credit to £164 debit! Part of which is the gas bill at £295!!!!!

WTF?

Meter reading in October was 3194, latest reading in second week of Feb was 3334 - how in the fuck have I used £300 worth of gas in 3 months, when all the gas is used for is heating water (for central heating, washing machine and running hot water) ?!?!?!?!?

Wondering if I've got a gas leak FFS!!!!!

Last time I gave em a meter reading (Oct) it put me in credit!

Pissed!

Switch the pilot light off on the boiler if you have one and watch to see if the meter is going round! If it is then you have a leak!

I once had a nice £800 leccy bill

Was a fault with immersion heater causing it to be on 24/7, equivalent of 3 kettles boiling constantly

So how come I only pay approx £30 a month for my gas? Presumeably because no one is here during the day?

This is what I don't get! I live on my own, heating comes on for an hour in the morning (6-7) and then is off all day untill half 4, when it comes on and stays on till midnight, then goes off. Thermostat is usually set to 20, but it's a shitty dial one, so thats probably not accurate. Right now I'm sat in the bedroom and it's 18deg.

The only other thing gas is used for is the shower and hot (tap) water! Oh and the washing machine, but seeing as I live on my own, that doesn't get used all the time...

I just don't get why it's that high as £300 (£100 a month!) when it wasnt that high last year! Surely gas prices can't have gone up that much!

Our gas bill standing order went up from 51 pounds a month to 91 a month.. so that shows you how much they have hiked the gas prices up by. I think thats about an 80% increase.

Mine was £69 a month last year this years DD is £88 thats a 28% increase . Mind you its a fairly big place so not complaining, had a new boiler fitted & that helped bring it down.

Newer washing machines only use cold water intake, and heat the water themselves to the required temperature. Saying that, the newest ones have settings for washing in cold water with the right liquids, so they cost even less to run.
For what it's worth, my quarterly bill last week was about £150 elec and about £180 for gas. I thought they were a lot, but looking on here it seems I got off lightly.

pre-pay meters are for people who cant manage thier finances and for landlords convienience.

They also cost more per unit as well as the daily charge. so yes you get no bill, but you are paying more

Theres only one supplier who charges same rates for prepay and credit meters.

Mine has gone up alot as well. Monthly payment uysed to be £25, gone up to £42 now and that was before I gave them a proper meter reading day before last, expecting the £42 to go up again.

Heating has been on alot though I must say, it's been bloody cold !

Cups of tea seems about right. You probably have also paid for recharging every battery tool that they own, and all the spare batteries!!!!!!.
