I've just fitted one - alloy with a poly centre. It's much stiffer than the original so should stop the diff shifting around under power and from cornering. I paid Ł90 second hand but I think they are around Ł140 new. I have the one from the the MC2 Racing site.

If you click the link in my signature you should see pics at the top of the page.

I'm testing at Brands Hatch on Monday and I'll report back on how it feels.

I just ordered one off Mike R. They are on back order and the ones he has coming at the end of the month are selling fast so get your name on one quick. GGR are out too as they are re-designing theirs and they are still not ready yet.

I have the same as mc2racing one, and had arranged for a uk supplier to make these, but they are reluctant to do now due to economy position, so that's a dead end.
You do notice vibration, well more of noise than vibration that varies with the amount of fuel in the tank, so obviously the tank is acting like a drum for any resonance, the downside of this minor thing though is massively offset by the gains, I am running no rear arb at the mo as keep forgetting it's not there, yes it really does stop a lot of the roll.
It also causes at certain speeds on mine anyway a diff whine slightly at around 40mph, like I say very slight though, would defo do it again for benefits.
If on a track car though think I would just make a solid one and save me money for other things.

+1 - hopefully my name is on one of the ones coming at the end of the month

From Mike's site about what it does ( hope it's not breaking any laws )

Along with the rear beam mount bushings, the differential mount is the most important bushing to upgrade on the car. Unfortunately, it is also the most overlooked bushing to replace. A weak differential mount causes a whole slew of issues that aren't necessarily transparent to the driver. First of all, the ride height of the car sags as the mount ages. Basically, the chassis, which pushes down on the differential mount and ends up sitting closer to the differential case and the beam, since the differential mount lacks compressive strength. Additionally, the weak rubber of the mount allows the subframe to move around, which causes the rear end of the car to feel squishy and slow to respond. This problem isn't limited to merely ruining the experience for the driver though. A subframe that moves with respect to the chassis creates significant toe changes that tremendously decrease handling grip and straight line grip. On a standard car (especially a high powered one), you can actually see the rear wheels move back and forth in the wheel well with your naked eye while the car is accelerating when a factory differential mount is installed. Besides the loss of grip and loss of driver confidence, the motion of the subframe also allows the rear tires to contact the wheel wells in hard corners when wider-than-stock wheels are fitted. By the way, ALL originally-installed differential mounts are weak regardless of mileage! It is R&B Motorsport's opinion that even brand new Ford differential mounts are too weak to use on high powered Cosworth that isn't being restored for just showing at bufty Concours d'Elegance.

I thought about this and talked to MC2 Racing bloke and we concluded that alloy beam mounts and a solid diff mount would make sense. But poly beam mounts and solid diff mounts may cause stress. If the beam can move under load then you'd need a little flex in the diff mount.

Well worth the money, a massive improvement was noticed on my 3dr after fitting the alloy/poly mounting. Noise, as Tab said, was slightly increased...but tbh my car is stripped out so not sure hwo much you'd hear the increase in noise in a fully trimmed car.

Deffo worth getting though....and also a good way to help keep those planet gears from shattering under harsh launches, as it removes the horrible 'axle tramp' type bouncing around you sometimes get with a knackered squidgy standard mount

Your race car blog is very interesting Charlie - are there many restrictions on the suspension mods you can do?

Cossie604,

Did your car 'squat' a lot less under hard acceleration?

Char1ie,
If you are allowed ?, I would weld supports from the beam to the diff hanger mount section on the body, and use solid mounts in place of the std beam mounts, the beam is not a very good idea suspension wise due to inherrant movement.

Hard to tell mate, it shouldnt make much odds in theory as the static weight of the car already takes up all the movement plus mines quite firm a ride anyhows. Either way, I'd recommend a uprated mount to anyone thats still running a standard mount on their cossie.

Thanks Mike.

The regs say I cannot change the pick-up points ie no modified rear beam. Also I can only replace rubber bushes with poly so I can't use solid beam mounts. The only adjustability I can put in is the front top mounts. Coilovers can replace springs and dampers but must locate in the same locations as original. I am allowed to run compression struts. Can't make the brakes any bigger as they have to fit within 15" wheels.

Good to hear, I'm hoping it will make a difference on mine - still got the old 1989 original which i'm sure will be getting towards retirement age now

Ah I did wonder how much free reign you were allowed when I saw you'd gone to 3 door hubs. Have you cut the strup tops out so you can run more camber/caster?

i used one and just got one for the escos, but dont forget that you may have to modify the bolts as the roll bar hits them on some cars, some cars they dont, mine the escos i had a rear plate made up to use counter sunk bolts, glad i did as when i fittd mine the roll bar only just missies the back plate, god knows what i would of done if i had bolts in it
