Totally loved it aswell, but took a sensible job back on the beach, I know what I'd do if left this gig tomorrow though!

Prob asked before but what do you do? Surely you get out of Yarmouth/Norwich if you're based there and not have to come up here?

Depends on what you do mate, and how long you stick at it TBH. I started on 16k as a trainee and left at 55k 7 years later. The market isn't exactly screaming for folk now unfortunately, maybe if you had a trade behind you as mentioned above or revious experience that would be a help.

Fuck oil rigs vessels is where its at espeially the cable side, oil and ga is far to serious and most the lads have had all fun sucked out of them, plus when your on a vessel there is a chance of getting along side and having a few social ones. I know of a standby vessel that was along side for 5 years in the bahamas lol

I found a really good job during the week on the rig's, was a training administrator, so would of visited rigs etc and done all the paperwork for training needs for the staff on board, would have really loved to have gone for it, but the time away from home would of got to me after much thinking about it. Shame as the pay was really good.

This is where I'm aiming to be after finishing my engineering course at college... will do almost anything to get a foot in the door, only did the course to prove I was serious about it and not just some boy who fancies the idea of giving it a shot.

Cheers,
Grant

im a trainee cementer with halliburton, half man half mattress.we are over the head with work and getting no time at home, but we cant take on any other people as other parts of hallys are paying off.the moneys about 25k a year to start off with but after about 1-2 years when you get broken out it goes up to about 40k.i love being away, not as much as being at home though, theres nothing better than waiting for the chopper home knowing you are getting some time off and you have been paid while you were away.i ahve heard there are few companys looking for guys but i have heard of even more that are paying off.same story everywhere i suppose.

It was through an agency, the job was based in New Malden in Surrey and was advertised on Job Centre website. I have looked for it this morning and cant find it.

Offshore is good if you can get offshore in the first place!! most people think its just a case of doing a course then turning up to work lol.
my mate has done his rgit twice and has an engineering background but has hit a brick wall so far in trying to get offshore.
mostly its just people who know people already in the business that can get the easy way in but i got lucky and managed to get an interview nearly 4 years ago and im still here enjoying it.
I started off doing slickline but have recently moved into completion tools which involves a lot of sitting around doing nowt which isnt everybodys cup of tea but once you get into a routine of watching films and going to the gym it aint too bad lol.
as previously said its not the best time to be trying but no harm done and good luck to anyone who tries.

bj pumping were looking for bodys, qserve were looking aswell,it is a case of who you know.i was offshore before and i had my rgit.it ran out a couple of years ago.so when i started this job i didnt have 1,they paid everything.i started in a group of 3,1 guy was clueless, didnt have a contact in the company,no rgit and did really bad in his interview exam.he was told exactly what the job entailed and he jacked after 3 trips as he didnt like being away, now they cant replace him because of this hiring ban.theres also all the agencys you could try,but they wont look at you unless you have an rgit and a green hat certificate, even then it will be hard.its amazing the amount of numptys that think all they have to do is phone a company and they will get a job(some do).good luck trying,if you have any mechanical experience definately bum it up in your c.v!
