Default Saph headlight question

Besides having decent bulbs, which lights up the road at night best: standard or morette headlights?

Change the bulbs

Sierra lights are great, as long as they're supplied enough power and are in good nick.

Sapph lights as said are fantastic, with decent ie Philips X treme bulbs and a reworked power supply, they are ace even by todays standards.
It's always the earth that sufferes most, so just beefing this up works wonders on it's own.
Some Morretes I have seen sealed beam shit, jesus like the dark ages, others had decent CIBIE lights(my fave light), sealed beam should be outlawed, some are only 35watts.
I have just put HID on me astra, and sapphie lights are still better, colour not as good but light output and pattern in particular is excellent with std lights.
I relayed mine with 2 relays in each headlight, so using existing supply just as switching supply.

get a hid kit
easy as pie but make sure you get the dip/dim versions as opposed to the other non dip/dim ones

the difference on the mondeo is noticable now but not when they were fitted, mainly because i only had to use the full beam yesterday and there wasn't that much in it

You get two versions of the HID kit on H4, there is H4-3 or H4-4, the 4 being the better, this is what I have on the astra.
Doj says get the full hid main and dip.
Based upon my experience with the astra I would disagree, the dip is very good pattern, the main is hopeless by compairson, the beam is just too narrow, shine it on a wall and you will see the main is a very narrow letterbox shape beam, so to get a decent main on the road you need to dip the dip down a lot, but as said there is so little beneift from main beam over dip in light output on the area it matters it's not worth it.
The beam pattern on philips x treme was 100000000% better than it is on HID, my friend had HID on projector lenses, and says his lights were better with HID on std lights!!.
The H4-4 kit I have has just one HID bulb, and a cover that moves back or forwards to select dip/main, should be a lot better on cossie though as the inner spots will fill in a lot of what HID misses, you just notice a big hole(no light) immediately in front of car that was not there with std lights.
I am seriously considering taking it off for a better beam pattern.

the lights on the sierra though, are shit, and any means of improving them can only be a good thing

not everyone wants to go through teh hassle of wiring up the hid's etc so if there are builbs out there that will do the trick then they should be advertised, we can even rate them based on how effective they are

The lights on Sierra are shit ONLY if on the unmodified wiring, it is not going to achieve anything sticking bbetter bulbs in that still have insuffecient power due to old high resistance wiring.
It is less hassle to put in hid than rewire the std lights.
